We Are Not Alone

“It’s a prison ship and a very large one at that. I don’t think the people here are simple pickpockets.”

You can read the opening of The Hero of Pendown here, and the second portion of the story here, both written by the very talented Jonathon Sawyer.

You decide to secure the control room. Logically it has to be one of the most important areas of the ship.

You inquire with Ketal as to the whereabouts of the control room. With a crude sense of direction, you set off with Eshami in tow. The dim lighting of the halls sporadically flickers on and off.

You both cautiously traverse the innards of the ship as a thought gnaws away at you. “Eshami,” you call out quietly to her, “Do you know what crimes the people on this ship were accused of?”

“What do you mean, hero?” she asks.

“It’s a prison ship and a very large one at that. I don’t think the people here are simple pickpockets.”

But Eshami just gasps as she stares ahead with eyes as wide as dinner plates. As you follow her gaze, you spot the figure that looms at the end of the hall. The thing is pulsing and expanding, almost as if it is breathing. Blood flows from it like tendrils and drips to the ground.

Scarcely a moment are the drops of blood offered before they are soaked back up into the being to repeat the cycle.

You watch in horror as a being trapped within the tendrils stretches outwards in a desperate attempt to escape. It would break free for a second only to be caught and dragged back in. Despite the poor lighting, you can see the creature is being drained alive. Skin quickly turns pale and shrivels before your very eyes.

“Help me….” the poor husk calls out to you.

You have a couple of options to choose from. Pick wisely…

  1. Fight the bloodbeast and try to save the trapped creature. (Written by Bradan Writes Stories here.)
  2. Retreat with Eshami and try a different hall to the control room. (Written by Jonathon Sawyer here.)

This is a ‘choose your own’ story article. You can read more about the collaborative effort and how you can participate here:
