This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition.” Go back to the beginning of the story at “The Burned Village” by JF Danskin. Or head back to the previous chapter, “Letting Your Anger Break Free” by Sieran Lane. Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here!

As you hurry after the guard, your head throbs and you feel oddly dizzy.

Then you gasp. The guard clutches your wrist in an icy-cold grip. They let go and order you to sit at the table. You’re in a private room, presumably where the merchants make their secret deals.

“Call me Taryn,” the guard says. “If you really want to save your family, you need a cool head.”

Your head does feel cooler and clearer after Taryn clamped your wrist with a cold touch. “Where are they?”

Taryn smirks. “Somewhere you’ll never find. Unless I come with you.”

What do you do?

  1. Taryn is suspicious. Leave them and search for your family yourself.
  2. Take Taryn up on their offer. It sure beats having to do everything alone, and they seem to know what they’re doing.
