Dedication

[1] I took the above picture hours ago. On the left in the photo Dedication, is Alec Mustafayev (born 2002). He dedicated his time to our team while working with Jairson Ascencao (born 1999) at Ri4CTV. The photo was taken by Nickantony Quach on Day 95 of our startup story, In 100 Days: The Start of Our Startup. Part of what took place on the day is captured by the following video.

[2] The video Dedication to Our Team, which is Episode 1 in Season 13 of the YouTube series NDBaker93, opens with the photo Dedication because its image is taken from the experience played out in the video. It shows how Alec got started in helping Jairson to formulate the open letter Dear People of Providence. The letter itself is part of our startup story.

[3] After I showed Jairson the picture, I proclaimed, “Dedication”, as its title.

[4] “But,” paused I, “is it devotion?”

[5] After glancing through my Thumoslang database, I told Jairson, “I saw the following thumbnail definitions.”

  • Dedication; that means, purposeful devotion. [Correct]
  • Devotion; that means, purposeful loyalty. [Wrong]

[6] After Jairson and I did some analysis, we decided that loyalty is not required in devotion. We may be devoted to one thing today but to another thing the next day without involving loyalty. Here is the result of our analysis.

  • Fondness; that means, strong liking.
  • Affection; that means, feeling of fondness.
  • Determined; that means, strong desire.
  • Devotion; that means, determined affection. [Correct]

[7] Therefore, devotion does not mean purposeful loyalty but it basically means having a strong desire in feeling of fondness for something.

[8] In contrast, we believe that dedication means determined public affection, according to the existing thumbnail:

  • Dedication; that means, purposeful devotion. [Correct]

[9] Below is the actual result of our analysis.
