Moonhack 2020 is almost here, it’s time to get ready!

For the last four years we’ve celebrated all things SPACE! We’ve had almost 100,000 kids participate over the last four years and broken our own world record almost every year! (the current record is 35,865 in 2018)

Our projects have taken us to the Outback (Scratch 2016), we’ve landed shuttles on the moon (2018 Scratch, Python and Microbit), driven across the surface of the moon (Scratch 2019) and tested our knowledge of the moons of different planets (Python 2018).

(BTW, if you want to do any of these projects, they’re still hosted on our Moonhack projects page for you to access anytime, but remember that all Scratch projects before 2019 are written for Scratch 2)

In 2020, the beginning of a new decade, we’re turning our focus back to Earth, bringing our coding skills into our own backyard to solve the sustainability problems of our day-to-day.

In April, we’ll be sharing more info on each of our Moonhack projects! But here’s what you need to know to be counted!

First step, lock in your time for Moonhacking.
Moonhack can be completed anytime between May 25–31 in your Code Club, Coder Dojo, classroom, library, school or home! It’s open to everyone and accessible to all ages (and will be available in multiple languages). We’ll even have a ScratchJr project for the little ones!

Second step, register.
This is the most important one! You must register to be counted! The Moonhack registration page will launch on April 6th. You’ll receive special tips, certificates and other fun resources. In the meantime, sign up to the mailing list on our website and follow us on Twitter and Facebook to make sure you get the reminder.

Third step, sharing your progress
If you have the permission of the kids in your group, let us know how you’re getting ready for Moonhack 2020 using #moonhack.

Fourth step, keep sharing during Moonhack!
The time has come, you’re Moonhacking! And we want to see! Share across any platform using #moonhack or send us your pics/videos/projects to moonhack@codeclubau.org. (Check out the T&C’s on our website here)

So, let’s bring our moonshot thinking with us to Moonhack 2020 and help the adults of the future find digital solutions for the world’s sustainability problems.

If you want to do something more for communities across Australia suffering from bushfires, please consider donating to one of the charities on this list.
