Instagram has made sliding up in the DMs a little smoother with its latest update, which adds a bunch of new capabilities to its Direct Messaging feature.

The update allows users to privately send images from their feeds to friends, eliminating the need to tag people in photo comments. This previous habit clutters news feeds and image comment sections, with nearly 40% of photo comments including an @-mention. Instead, feeds will now feature an arrow icon underneath every image that you can click for the option to share the post with one or multiple contacts.

The Direct window has been updated to host a camera shortcut in the bottom left corner, so you can easily respond to messages with a selfie, and a heart button in the bottom right, which allows you to respond with emojis.

Previously, Instagram Direct was limited to one-on-one conversations, but the new update allows users to engage in group chats, as well as the ability to name conversations. These changes make conversing and sharing content on Instagram much smoother and efficient, akin to Facebook Messenger.

The update is available now.
