Although living in a headset and experiencing life through the metaverse may seem like a distant possibility, Mark Zuckerberg believes it will be a reality within a few years.

In only just one year, Mark Zuckerberg's Meta has invested more than $10 billion in metaverse research. What is he spending a fortune on, and what is it that he hopes to achieve by creating virtual worlds?

If the metaverse ever does take shape, it won't happen overnight and it won't be fully realized for many years. But the CEO of Meta firmly believes it will happen and asserted that it won't be anything that one firm develops independently. Although Meta is developing metaverse technology, according to him, it is actually creating the "foundational tech" that will support the metaverse. The metaverse will require more businesses than only Meta to support it if it is to be achieved. Game developers like Roblox and chip manufacturers like Nvidia were named by Zuckerberg as important participants.

The virtual world that Meta (the parent corporation of Facebook) has suggested is still being developed. AI, the technology that will enable everything to function, is its primary building block. The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, held a presentation recently in which he displayed some of the AI-related projects his team has been working on and which, in his opinion, will be essential to the success of the "immersive internet." One thing they all have in common is voice.

The development of a completely new class of digital assistants is one of the difficulties the corporation will face in making sure people can traverse this new augmented world. We will experience a lot of visual signals in the metaverse that we can access via virtual reality goggles. It will be crucial to enhance exchanges between the machine (the metaverse) and humans (the avatars) in order to prevent being overloaded with information.

In addition, Zuckerberg demonstrated BuilderBot, a speech-activated bot that enables users to alter their virtual surroundings using spoken commands, during his talk. Zuckerberg's avatar instructed to "put a sea there," and immediately a virtual ocean appeared.

The tech company wants to reach the 1.5 billion individuals, or 20% of the world's population, who do not understand English, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese and are less well-served by traditional translation systems. And we've also seen the production and release Quest, the virtual reality goggles that serve as a portal to the metaverse.

The rise of the metaverse will directly harm the TV industry if Zuckerberg has his way. He claimed that ultimately individuals would be able to watch their preferred television shows and films inside of their smart glasses rather than on a screen.

In a letter, Zuckerberg stated that the company’s upcoming social network will be "much more immersive." He explained that a sense of presence will be the characteristic of the metaverse. "In the metaverse, you’ll be able to do practically anything you can imagine, including meet up with pals and relatives, work, study, play, shop, and create, as well as wholly novel experiences that don’t really match how we now think about phones or computers."
