Presearch is a great tool for advertisers. The search engine takes a unique approach to paid advertising. You can achieve a huge return on investment for you or your clients or increase your profits.

I’m going to explain how Keyword Staking works, how to make the most of it, and present a case study on how to use it to drive results.

Before I begin, I’m required to inform you that all links in this blog include a referral code that will earn both you and me free PRE once you have been actively using the platform for 30 days.

What is Presearch?

Presearch is a decentralized privacy search engine. For those of you unfamiliar with decentralized projects, they are projects where multiple people or organizations control the assets as opposed to a single entity.

The Presearch engine provides search results from hundreds of different search engines without censoring the results. It also protects user data by wiping the information before performing searches.

You can get PRE, the currency of Presearch by:

  1. Buying it
  2. Using the search engine
  3. Running a node

As a professional writer, I use it daily to find unique content that may not be displayed on Google due to the algorithms Google uses. I also use the Keyword Staking for marketing businesses. Let’s look at how Keyword Staking works.

How does keyword staking work?

To perform keyword staking on Presearch you’ll need to create an account, which you can do at account.presearch.org. Then you’ll need to go through the following process:

  1. Buy PRE tokens
  2. Go to https://keywords.presearch.org/?rid=2270247
  3. Choose a keyword to stake
  4. Write ad
  5. Monitor keywords for people outbidding you

Step 1: Buy PRE

You can buy PRE in batches of 1,000 from https://marketplace.presearch.org/?rid=2270247

Currently you can buy 1,000 for just under $200 using USD, BTC, or ETH over the last year, that has been no more than $50.

Keyword staking works by choosing the exact search terms you wish to use. Each term will require at least 100 PRE.

So 1,000 PRE will pay for up to 10 keywords, but this doesn’t work like your normal cost per click, cost per impression, or cost per action advertising.

What am I paying for with PRE?

With Presearch you are buying the PRE and the ability to show your ad until one of three things occur:

  1. Someone else out bids you.
  2. You withdraw or sell your PRE.
  3. The network implements a payment model that starts depleting your staked PRE.

That’s right, until July 1, 2022 (and most likely longer), staking keywords does not charge anything more than the initial fee.

https://news.presearch.io/free-keyword-staking-extended-until-july-1st-2022-bd9375ab26b2

They’ll announce ahead of time if they are going to move to a different pay model in the future, but right now you can buy some PRE, stake your PRE on keywords of your choice, and get impressions and clicks with one easy payment.

Step 2: Go to Keyword Staking Page

You’ll want to go to https://keywords.presearch.org/ to stake your keywords.

Step 3: Stake Keywords:

You’ll stake each keyword individually (for now). It will show whether someone is staking it and for how much.

You’ll have to beat any bid, but people can set notifications for when they are outbid. Try to avoid bidding wars. They are bad for everyone.

Step 4: Write Your Ad

Writing an ad will consist of 3 parts:

  1. Headline: Max 100 characters
  2. Description: Max 250 characters
  3. URL: page you want the ad to go

Once you submit them your ad will go live shortly.

Step 5: Monitor Your Results

You can download a spreadsheet with your results. It currently only shows views and clicks data, but I’ll be pushing for better data. That being said, Presearch is a privacy search engine so don’t expect more than CPM, CPC, and CTR.

Presearch Keyword Staking Case Study

A former coworker reached out to me about helping with content for Alpfi.com. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it’s a blockchain explorer that helps people analyze projects and holdings. I wrote a couple of pieces for them and set up a Presearch ad campaign in late October 2021 and ran it through May 20, 2022.

Presearch Ad Content

Target Keywords

I selected the following keywords:

  1. analytics
  2. blockchain analytics
  3. blockchain explorer
  4. explorer
  5. Nansen
  6. onchain
  7. Research
  8. Top holders

We maintained the number 1 position on all but Nansen (one of Alpfi’s competitors) and top holders.

The ad creative

We made it a point to use a similar ad for everything so that there weren’t major discrepancies in the results. The following are the headlines used. Some were used for multiple keywords.

We used the following headlines:

  • Alpfi: Experience Next Generation Blockchain Analytics
  • Alpfi: Next Generation Blockchain Explorer
  • Alpfi: Next Generation ERC-20 Explorer
  • Alpfi: Experience Next Generation Onchain Analytics
  • Research your favorite crypto tokens with Alpfi

The descriptions included:

We also tried to keep the descriptions of each ad relatively similar for purposes of minimizing discrepancies. The following are the descriptions we used:

  1. Alpfi’s next-generation blockchain analytics give you the tools to analyze everything you need to know about a cryptocurrencies transaction history including tracking major holders. Try it free today.
  2. Alpfi’s next-generation blockchain explorer gives you the tools to analyze everything you need to know about a cryptocurrencies transaction history including tracking major holders.
  3. Alpfi’s next-generation ERC-20 explorer gives you the tools to analyze everything you need to know about a cryptocurrencies transaction history including tracking major holders.
  4. Alpfi’s next-generation onchain analytics gives you the tools to analyze everything you need to know about a cryptocurrencies transaction history including tracking major holders.
  5. Research your favorite crypto tokens with Alpfi

All ads targeted the home page Alpfi.com. The total staked amount was under 2,000 PRE with most keywords being set at the minimum, but analytics and research had higher staking levels.

Get ready to find out the results!

Over 6 months there were over 100,000 views and 473 clicks. Those numbers aren’t spectacular, but we spent less than $200 on PRE.

Let’s look at the marketing statistics using:

  1. Cost per impression(CPM)
  2. Cost per click(CPC)
  3. Clickthrough rate (CTR)

Cost per impression

The CPM is normally measured as a cost per 1,000 views. Our CPM was $1.94, but depending on the price you buy PRE, similar results could have generated prices between $.034 CPM and $15.75 CPM, with PRE at current value-generating approximately $2.96 CPM.

It’s important to understand that these numbers are theoretical in nature because I still hold all these PRE. So in actuality, I got $200 of awareness for $100 and if I sold today, I would have nearly $300 from the sale of PRE.

As long as you are buying under $.30 you should have a justifiable CPM.

Research(48k), explorer(32k), and analytics for the most impressions (19k). The rest were less than 1k each.

Cost Per Click

The next marketing action most digital marketers want to know is the cost per click. In other words, how much does it cost to get someone to your page?

It cost us around $.42/click and today’s value could be around $.64 (still respectful). Anything under $.45 would generate better returns than Google’s $1.85 CPC across the crypto industry.

Once again these numbers are theoretical CPC because I still have the PRE. I effectively got $193.93 of free clicks.

Research (367), analytics(64), and explorer (29) got the most clicks. Others were single digits.

Let’s look at the clickthrough rate.

The clickthrough rate is simply clicks/views. Our results were:

  1. Analytics: 0.33%
  2. Blockchain Analytics: 0
  3. Blockchain Explorer: 1.13%
  4. Explorer: 0.09%
  5. Nansen: 0.34%
  6. Onchain: 0.43%
  7. Research: 0.76%
  8. Overall: 0.47%

The highest CTR was low volume, but a variation of one of the top-performing searches. The term “research” was the only other metric that performed better than average.

Unfortunately these clickthrough rates are fairly low compared to other ads, but that is to be expected during the infancy of a project. They also would have been managed differently if real money were able to be lost because I would never continue to throw money at underperforming keywords.

Impacts of gains and losses

As a business owner, you may experience long-term or short-term gains on crypto assets that will play a role in your return on investment. You should consult with a tax professional on how to best manage those.

I am not licensed to give investment advice. Any investment decisions you make are at your own risk. This article is focused on the marketing benefits. To get the best returns, I typically look for projects at the lower end of their 52-week price range.

After the case study was done, the return on investment was:

Initial Cost: $196

Returns:

  1. $200 of awareness
  2. $193.93 of clicks
  3. $98 in increased PRE Value

Total Returns: $491.93+$196 ( Initial inv)=$687.93

ROAS: 3.51

Effectively a well-conducted ad can generate effective gains on Presearch Keyword Staking in the crypto industry. If the price returns to the ATH, the ROAS would rise to 10.21.

For those who started keyword staking early, they can see returns that are far greater due to PRE once being valued under a penny and having much longer staking periods to earn clicks.

I would strongly recommend marketing your business on Presearch at least until they implement a consumption-based advertising model. Even after they implement a CPM or CPC model, I suspect you’ll see substantial returns on investment.

Limitations of this study.

These searches were less than 1/10,0000 of the Presearch search volume during the time and were focused on a specific segment of the crypto industry. It cannot be assumed that all search terms would generate comparable results.

I did not maintain contact with the Alpfi team so I cannot state revenue numbers. Another ad I am running already has a 6x return on ad spend on the week it has been up with 43 views, 5 clicks, and 1 purchase.

Conclusion

Based on my findings, any business owner should consider investing in Presearch Keyword Staking. My suggestion would be to purchase 3,000 PRE from Presearch Marketplace.

Use 1,000 PRE to invest in 10 keywords. Then monitor them to see how they do. Use the other 2,000 PRE to invest in a node which will generate more PRE that can be used to invest in additional keywords.
