THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTERNET(WEB 1.0, 2.0, 3.0,)AND THE CONTINIUOUS ITERATIONS.

It is obvious that some people have been making use of the web without considering how it was developed. In these articles, we shall talk about the development of this web and its successive iterations.

WEB 1.0
The concept and fundamentals of this web was pioneered by a computer scientist Berners-Lee during the early development of the internet in the 1990s he wrote the three fundamental technologies that were the bedrock of this web.

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) which is the language of the web. URL (Uniform Resource Locator) a unique address used to identify each resource on the web.
Finally, HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) which allows for the retrieval of linked resources from across the web.

An example of this type of web is the NETSCAPE which its navigator was the first commercially-available web browser with a graphical user interface. It made the World Wide Web easier to use as of then.
Content creation was still in its infancy, and users had little opportunity for interactive applications, that when the second stage of the internet came in.

WEB 2.0
The Web 2.0 was paradigm shift to how the internet was used. Over the past 15 to 20 years, the bland webpages of Web 1.0 was completely replaced by Web 2.0’s interactivity, social connectivity, and user-generated content. Web 2.0 was made to basically to solve the problem of Web 1.

The exponential growth of Web 2.0 was driven by key innovations such as mobile internet access and social networks, as well as the near-ubiquity of powerful mobile devices like iPhones and Android-powered devices.

In the second decade of this millennium, these developments enabled the dominance of apps that greatly expanded online interactivity and utility. For example, Airbnb, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Uber, WhatsApp, and YouTube, to name a few.

WEB 3.0
Web 3.0 has been the current iteration or phase of the evolution of the web/internet in my own opinion and potentially, i believe it could be as disruptive and as it represent as big a paradigm shift as Web 2.0 did.

Web 3.0 is built upon the core concepts of decentralization, openness, and greater user utility. Berners-Lee had expounded upon some of these key concepts back in the 1990s, as outlined below: Decentralization: “No permission is needed from a central authority to post anything on the web, there is no central controlling node, and so no single point of failure…and no ‘kill switch’! This also implies freedom from indiscriminate censorship and surveillance.”

Instead of code being written and controlled by a small group of experts, it was now developed in full view of everyone, encouraging maximum participation and experimentation.

Jack Dorsey the CEO of Twitter has once introduced WEB 5.0, which he said was the combination of the WEB 2 and WEB3. However, since we know, that technology is growing day to day, no doubt about these new innovations.

Well, thanks for reading up to this point, if you love this article please feel free to give me a clap.

See you guys on the next one.
