Etherum is moving from proof-of-work (PoW) to proof-of-stake(PoS). September 20, 2022, was announced for the final merger. Without unforeseen circumstances, Etherum would transition from Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to WebAssembly (eWASM).

Phase 0 of the Ethereum transition journey began on December 1, 2020, with the launch of Beacon Chain. Phase 1 suffered a failed date but was done in June 2022, the Sepolia Testnet Beacon.

The final trial of the merger was done on the Goerli network.

What is the implication of this merge for you as an investor?

This merge implies that Ethereum will become scarce. And economics 101 says if the demand for an article is high and the supply is low, then the price will increase.

Let me explain further,

The unofficial name for this merger is “the Triple Halving.”

The Ethereum community called it “the triple halving” because it is unlike the bitcoin halving every 4 years that always cuts supply in half. Ethereum merge would bring about a 90% reduction is equivalent to 3 bitcoin halving.

Let’s look at the numbers.

As it stands with the (PoW) model, Ethereum issues roughly 13,500 Eth daily; this is about 4.3% of the total Eth supply annually.

However, the PoS issuance model is based on how much Eth is actively staked on the network. The current projection says a drop between 0.3% to 0.4% in issuance would take effect when the merge occurs.

The reduction in issuance and the increased staking opportunities would reduce the Eth in circulation and bring about an increased value.

My advice for you

Think in the long-term while investing. Don’t buy the short-term hype.

This merger rumor is already producing its expected result, an increased price of Eth. When the final merge happens, it may further propel the price to the upside , or bring down the price. But what is certain is that in 4 to 5 years, Eth will be incredibly profitable.
