Polygon Edge

The Polygon Edge is a blockchain stack for developers where one can create customized blockchain networks depending on their specific requirements. And the custom blockchain networks support a wide variety of scaling solutions.

The Polygon Edge makes things easier for developers and companies who need innovation, which can be achieved through customized blockchain.

The article gives details about Polygon Edge’s consensus mechanism, its additional features and how it can help developers -

Consensus Mechanism of Polygon Edge -

The Polygon Edge got two consensus mechanisms -

1. IBFT Proof of Authority (PoA) -

The IBFT stands for Istanbul Byzantine Fault Tolerant. And IBFT PoA is the first in-built consensus mechanism in the Polygon Edge.

Validators play a critical role in the PoA for block creation and adding them to the blockchain.

The validator set is created, which consists of all the validators, and any validator can be added or removed with the help of a voting mechanism. This means a certain validator can be opted-in or removed from the validator set if the majority of 51% votes is completed. This mechanism helps to remove malicious validators from the network, and trusted validators can be added to the validators set.

At least 2–3 validators are required to approve one block in the PoA consensus mechanism of the Polygon Edge. Apart from validators, some non-validators do not participate in the voting mechanism but only in blockchain validation.

2. Proof of Stake (PoS) -

The logic behind the PoS implementation is situated in the Staking Smart Contracts.

Moreover, Node operators in the Polygon Edge have the choice to select any one of the consensus mechanisms when starting a chain.

Additional features of Polygon Edge -

1. Chainbridge -

Chainbridge is built by Chainsafe, a multi-directional blockchain supporting Substrate and EVM-compatible chains. All messages and assets can be transferred between two chains with the help of Chainbridge.

2. BlockScout -

A full node archive is required by BlockScout so that every change can be imported for every address on the target network.

3. Permission Smart Contract Deployment -

Network Operators can prevent users from deploying smart contracts which aren’t related to the network purpose. Network Operators can use two steps -

1. Whitelist addresses that can deploy smart contracts.

2. Remove addresses from the whitelist that can deploy smart contacts.

4. Smart Contract Predeployment -

The process of Smart Contract Predeployment comes when the user wants to have their Smart Contract on the present chain. Rather than manually deploying Smart Contracts on the running chain, some users want to present their Smart Contract on block 1 at the certain address they specify. And thus, Polygon Edge allows users to specify Solidity Smart Contracts.

Polygon Edge for Developers -

Polygon Edge is the blockchain framework released by Polygon. Polygon Edge helps developers faster and in an easy manner to create public or private Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks.

The blockchain networks created on the Polygon Edge will be up and running in no time as it is compatible with Ethereum’s transactions and smart contracts.

Moreover, Polygon Edge provides developers to create blockchain networks with scaling solutions and customizable features. The Polygon Edge is known for its modular architecture, which also benefits the developers with low gas fees. The Polygon Edge can efficiently connect public networks to permissioned networks.

Polygon Edge can transfer assets like ERC-20 and ERC-721 while supporting communication across diverse blockchain networks. Any industry-standard wallets can connect and interact with the Polygon Edge through the JSON RPC endpoints.

Companies want to innovate their products, and custom blockchain networks are required to support those innovations.

A custom blockchain network helps companies configure parameters like block limits for transactions, consensus mechanisms, and more. But creating a custom blockchain network can be a complex task; thus, Polygon Edge helps developers create custom blockchain networks.

Conclusion -

The Polygon Edge is an innovative technology that will improve developers’ experience by providing a customizable blockchain, an option to select consensus mechanisms and additional features so that the developers can focus on their products and all the complex problems are solved by the Polygon Edge.
