Coliving finally getting traction… and the number of coliving events is blowing up!

While a couple of years ago, Co-Liv hosted the first coliving conference in San Francisco, this year I already counted more than 10 events on the agenda.

Join some of the major gatherings in the coliving industry to meet the coliving community and plug your nose into what’s happening — oh, and hit me up if you’re going ;)

MAJOR COLIVING EVENTS 2019

Coliving Hub Conference

Date: April 27–28
Location: Gran Canaria, Spain

Created in 2018, the non-profit Coliving Hub is hosting its first event. Dedicated to bringing together the major coliving operators under one roof for two days in Gran Canaria, the goal of this first conference is to build a global community of coliving operators that desire to support each other, share knowledge and form a strong worldwide collective.

Participants already include founders from the UP(st)ART Creative, Seedspace, Coconat and Kindred Quarters, as well as folks from the Conscious Coliving collective, architects, and industry investors.

Get your tickets here (price: 159€ for members / 249€ for non-members)

Coworking And Coliving Conference SEE

Date: October 9–11
Location: Belgrade, Serbia

Mokrin House is organizing its first major conference, focussing on the development of coworking and coliving in South East Europe. The purpose is to explore changing regional dynamics and to build a strong community of industry leaders in the region, which has remained largely untouched by other coliving conferences.

The conference will gather more than 40 speakers with strong reputation towards coworking & coliving, social entrepreneurship, and international community building, as well as representatives from the public sector and public policy influencers.

Get your tickets here (price: 150€ until April, 250€ until June, 350€+ onwards)

Co-Liv Annual International Summit

Date: October 17–18
Location: Paris, France

Since 2017, the non-profit Co-Liv has been at the forefront of the coliving industry. After two highly successful events in the last two years, the collective has brought together more than 300 industry experts, thought leaders, and operators from around the globe. Its objective is to consolidate the entire industry and create the link between all coliving players — from operators to investors, architects, designers, and real estate developers.

Former speakers include coliving operators from Roam, Sun & Co, Space10, The Collective, and Zoku, as well as thought leaders such as Anton & Irene, Bond Society, Urgent Agency, and the Conscious Coliving collective.

Pre-register now for the 2019 conference here (price: not yet determined).

GATHERINGS ORGANISED BY CO-LIV

Afterwork « Coliving from the 50’s »

Date: April 17 at 7.30pm
Location: Paris, France

Thee Co-Liv collective is hosting this small after-work event to showcase the incredible story of a group of co-livers in the post-war period in Boulogne.

You can now pre-register to the event.

Afterwork London by Co-Liv

Date: June 12 at 7.30pm
Location: London, UK

Designed for members of the Co-Liv collective, this social gathering will group local members and offer an evening to network and meet the local chapter community.

If you’re part of the collective, you can now pre-register to the event (or get your membership here)

Co-Liv Local Summit Netherlands

Date: Autumn (to be determined)
Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Hosted at Zoku — a beautifully designed coliving space in Amsterdam — this event will gather the local members of Co-Liv and offer an opportunity to meet the local Co-Liv community.

If you’re part of the collective, you can now pre-register to the event (or get your membership here).

OTHER EVENTS RELATED TO COLIVING

Future: Proptech 2019

Date: May 14
Location: London, UK

The Future Proptech conference is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year. With over 2000 attendees, 100+ speakers and 800+ companies on board, this event unites players that will shape the real estate industry.

Interesting for coliving, especially as the sector is needed more support from the software and service side. As we’ve seen in 2019, there are more and more proptech and software startups that are being created around coliving (among others Kndrd, Wigawam, or ColivMe).

Get your tickets here (price: £114 to £474)

National Cohousing Conference

Date: May 30 — June 2
Location: Portland, USA

The topic of the 2019 National Cohousing conference is “Community for the health of it” and focuses on the demand side of cohousing — mostly appealing to those who want to be part of cohousing or already live that way.

The objective is to create strong cohousing models and the program includes topics such as in-house organization, how to build stronger community, and efficient conflict resolution.

Get your tickets here (price: $445)

Coworking Europe 2019

Date: November 13–15
Location: Warsaw, Poland

The annual Coworking Europe conference brings together up to 800 coworking space operators and facilitators. Last year held in Amsterdam, the conference has become a milestone for coworking space operators and include speakers from all over Europe.

I added this conference to the list as coliving is becoming an increasing interest for coworking operators — while coliving is not an official topic of the conference, I’m certain that the topic will come up and that it might make a lot of sense to attend in order to explore the crossover between the coworking and coliving markets.

Get your tickets here (price: 320€ early bird / 360€ after March 30th)

EVENTS THAT MIGHT HAPPEN

The Future of Real Estate Conference

Status: not confirmed yet
Probable Date: November

Last year, Cushman & Wakefield held the Future of Real Estate Conference in Lisbon, exploring how people will work, live and play in the future. With an emphasis of how this trend affects the real estate market, this event will definitely touch upon coliving if it is held this year.

Coliving Festival Zadar

Status: not confirmed yet
Probable Date: end 2019

In 2018, the Coliving Festival Zadar team lead by Marcus Mommsen hosted a coliving summit in Croatia. While I haven’t received official confirmation about the 2019 event, there is a chance it might happen end of 2019.

AND SOME MORE EVENTS FOR NEXT YEAR

MIPIM

Last held: March 12–15 (already over)
Location: Cannes, France

Cushman & Wakefield organised another event this year — the MIPIM, according to the company one of the world’s leading property events. It brought together influential players from all international property sectors — office, residential, retail, healthcare, sport, logistics and industrial, offering unrivalled access to the greatest number of development projects and sources of capital worldwide.

Definitely keeping a close look on their 2020 edition to see how coliving will be a key topic.

Co-Operative Real Estate Conference 2019

Last held: March 2 (already over)
Location: Toronto, Canada

A very interesting event, the Co-Operative Real Estate conference tackled the process of creating cooperatives in real estate. Major topics included how to finance a co-operative real estate purchase, what type of co-op model exist, and how to plan for future outcomes.

I’m keeping this conference on the radar especially as it offers hope for alternative coliving models that allow residents to create their own legal structure.

Build to Rent Forum

Last held: Feb 27 (already over)
Location: London, UK

With its last event held on the topic “The Diversification of Build to Rent”, this conference gathered both private and public sector leaders and key stakeholders to debate and exchange ideas. Because of an increasing trend to create more community within real estate projects, it will be interesting to attend next year’s forum to understand where the build-to-rent industry is overlapping with the coliving values.
