Outside Factors
Hello Readers!
Today, I’ve decided to compile a list of outside factors that I have noticed that impact my confidence in school, work, and everywhere else. In writing this list, I hope to deduce the outside factors that I have control over, and those that I do not, so that I may capitalize on this information when preparing for a big event. Perhaps it will inspire you as well!
ORGANIZATION
Who could possibly feel confident in themselves and their abilities when they are showing up to a big event, completely disorganized? I know that for me, personally, if I am disorganized, it quickly turns into being flustered. And there are few things that shake your confidence as much as being flustered.
Kirsten, a fellow classmate at my university, makes the point in her blog that “if a workplace is not organized, it cannot be successful”. I believe this sentiment applies to individuals as well. An organized person is a calm person, which turns into a confident person.
PREPAREDNESS
This point is very similar to the above, because when you are organized, you tend to be better prepared. Being prepared means that you can handle not only the expected, but also the unexpected. Knowing that you are prepared for any and all outcomes can be an enormous confidence boost.
APPEARANCE
For a big event, such as a presentation or an interview, an important confidence boosting tip is to dress nicely, in a way that makes you feel good. If you have a favorite blouse or tie, or if wearing a jacket or lipstick makes you feel good, then it will provide both comfort and a little extra confidence boost.
I recently purchased a professional looking blazer. I know that if I show up to an interview wearing it, I will both look and feel professional, which makes me feel more confident. Putting together an outfit that makes you feel good is a small tip that can make a big difference.
COMPETITION
Even people who thrive in competition can sometimes have their confidence thrown a bit once they see who the competition is. A tough competitor can cause you to question your own abilities, even if you were certain you were the right fit for the job. However, the competition you’re facing is a factor that is completely outside your control.
In my experience, paying careful attention to the above factors can increase your confidence enough that you are not completely thrown by whoever the competition is. Paying attention more to the other factors will keep you focused more on yourself and your own skills than on others.
Those are my biggest factors at the moment, if any readers would like to share any helpful tips, feel free to do so!
