Happy Wednesday!

Things I’m appreciative of this week: sunshine, the NBA Finals (I made really good picks a month ago, by the way), and fresh blackberries in lemonade. And the new season of The Great—can’t forget that.

In today’s edition of Content Consumed, we’re chatting about:
🎬 You should watch The Other Two
🌹 Mini-drama at The Cannes Film Fest
📣 Meghan and Harry’s chase, Billie’s break-up, and Kris Jenner’s blooper

‘The Other Two’ is the most underrated comedy on TV right now

Seriously, I don’t know why everyone isn’t watching this. Wait! I do know. Because HBO doesn’t promote it like they promote series like House of the Dragon, Last of Us, Succession, and Barry. It’s a sad truth.

So, shoutout to my friends Heather and Michael for recommending The Other Two. I binge-watched the first season in just a day or so, then started the second season last night.

The premise: Two floundering millennial siblings must grapple with their 13-year-old brother’s overnight fame.

It’s a satire on the Justin Bieber phenomenon—from a different angle, without overplaying any cards—and wickedly funny. Definitely edgy.

I love that I don’t really know any of the cast besides SNL alum Molly Shannon. You can tell, by the way, that this was produced by Lorne Michaels. It has the mid-2000s SNL bite and that 30 Rock banter that we all miss, but taken to a new extreme.

I’m curious to see where the second season goes after Chase Dreams (yes, that’s the tween pop star’s name) decides he wants to go to college, and the mom gets her own talk show.

Inside the Cannes Film Fest (so far)

Ah, another beautiful film festival along the sparkling Mediterranean. The Cannes Film Fest began yesterday.

The hot topics so far:

  • Well, Johnny Depp is there. He received a 7-minute standing ovation after the screening of his featured film. But his presence alone is, of course, controversial due to the court trial last year with Amber Heard. Here’s how Depp himself addressed it. I think his analogy is stupid and blind to the actual issue.
  • Brie Larson was asked about Johnny Depp because she’s on the Cannes jury and a vocal member of the Time’s Up and MeToo organizations. Here’s how she responded to the reporter’s question. I think she’s been subject to a lot of misogyny since joining Marvel and I understand her vague answer. I’m not sure what a better answer could’ve been at that moment.
  • Simona Tabasco (White Lotus) absolutely nailed her first Cannes appearance and my jaw’s on the floor.

That’s it for now, honestly. It’s been quiet. Read this Vanity Fair piece about recent Cannes scandals over the years if you’re looking for some spice.

Meghan and Harry’s chase, Billie’s break-up, and Kris Jenner’s blooper

Sorry, I can’t just publish this without a bit more celeb stuff today.

  • Meghan and Harry spent two hours in a car chase around NYC last night, according to reports. Some say that this is the existing monarchy at work, but that’s not original enough! They wouldn’t do the paparazzi-car-crash-abroad thing (conspiracy or not?) again. Sidenote: I don’t understand how police couldn’t have stopped a two-hour car chase.
  • Billie Eilish has broken up with Jesse Rutherford, and thank God for that. I personally believe a 31-year-old man should not date a 21-year-old woman, especially one who he has known since he was 25 and she was 15. And I hope that’s not a hot take!
  • Kris Jenner, you’re better than this. We know Kylie and Timothee Chalamet cannot possibly be dating, yet we keep hearing about it. And whoops, it’s been called out that the EXACT same words were used for press about Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian. Can’t recycle press stories! The Internet knows!

That’s all for today! Be sure to follow this column if you loved reading it.

Cheers,
Casey
