Each Sunday, my wife and I cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

We had a rough time with last week’s dessert. But thankfully, that didn’t stop Sarah and I from going back to the well this week. The way we decided on this week’s dessert was somewhat serendipitous.

Over 4th of July weekend, we went to a cookout with friends. I was supposed to bring items for s’mores. I ended up bringing waaaay too many marshmallows, and we had a bunch left over. So, we decided on Rice Krispies Treats.

I went to the store to buy all the items we needed. I assumed Rice Krispies would be gluten-free. They should be, but it didn’t say anything on the box. To play it safe, we usually only buy things that are marked gluten-free. So I went on a search. Finally, I found an off-brand rice cereal that we could use.

I got home, and we went about putting the treats together. Sarah started melting the marshmallows and butter. I noticed some Reese’s sitting on the counter, and I said we should toss them in. Yes, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, but…come on…it’s Reese’s!

As I write this, we just got home from camp. The wild and crazy schedule has pushed this post back to Saturday. But amid all the tiredness and fatigue, I feel so at peace. Some experiences are just the right amount of a good thing.

After the treats had cooled, we got them out and began cutting them into bite-sized pieces. They were a gooey mess. The bottom stuck to my fingers as I picked up my first piece. Then I took a bite.

Mmmmmmm.

They were soooo good! Sarah and I had a few pieces, then we saved the rest for later. Because when you find a gooey good thing, you keep the good times rolling.

Thank you for reading! Wishing you all the gooey goodness in the world, and all the best as you enjoy simple moments with those you love. :)
