The Universe of Cosmic Champs NFTs
We’ve written here about the gameplay features of Cosmic Champs. This time we wanted to share an overview about the full range Cosmic Champs NFTs that form a part of Cosmic Champs gameplay as our Genesis NFT Launch date gets closer. Full details of our NFT launch will be in an article to follow.
Types of NFTs
When the game is fully launched, there will be six types of NFTs operating in the Cosmic Champs ecosystem: Planets, Ships, Champs, Blueprints, Treasures, and Utilities.
Cosmic Champs NFTs are 3D models that are used in our real-time mobile game. Our NFTs have been designed with several considerations in mind:
- They need to look great and be easily recognisable;
- They need to conform to technical specifications to function properly in the game;
- They have to allow for manageable game balancing.
8 different Champs and 2 types of Ships will be available for purchase during our Genesis NFT Launch Period — with other types of NFTs to follow.
It won’t be essential to own NFTs to play the game — but one of the main benefits of play to earn is owning your own in-game assets so you can take them with you wherever you travel in the Cosmic Champs metaverse.
Champs
Champs are the characters used in battle. Each season, a new generation of fighters will be born across all corners of the cosmos. Champs have a range of traits which impact the in-game statistics of a character (e.g.health, damage, range of attack, hit speed and movement speed).
There are many different types of Champs and each type falls into one of two versions: standard or NFT. All standard versions of Champs are off chain, have the same statistics, have the same appearance and have an infinite supply.
All NFT versions of Champs are on chain, have enhanced character statistics compared with the standard version, have different but not always unique appearances, and have a limited supply.
Both versions of Champs can be upgraded to improve their statistics. Both standard and NFT versions of Champs can be used in the play-to-earn arenas. NFT Champs do not need to be purchased to access the play-to-earn arenas. Cosmic Champs will always be free-to-play.
Ships
Traverse the ever-expanding Cosmic universe in Ships that act as homes and bases of operation for a player’s Champs. Ships serve several important functions within the game:
- They are essential to transport a player’s Champs to the Planets that host the play-to-earn arenas; They are a player’s base during battles;
- They enhance the character statistics of a player’s Champs;
- They may enhance the amount of COSM a player earns from winning battles.
While a player is in a play-to-earn battle, their Ship will mine a Planet’s natural resources (Steel Chips). When a player has mined enough Steel Chips they may exchange it for a Blueprint NFT which can be used to build (mint) a new Ship.
The play-to-earn arenas cannot be accessed without a Ship. As Cosmic Champs will also be released as free to play, there will be free starter shops available to those who want to access the Arenas before investing in a Ship NFT.
These free ships will not be able mine Steel Chips which prevents owners from building new Ships. Additionally players using starter ships will earn reduced rewards for winning — the difference in rewards will go to the community treasury
Planets
Planets host the play-to-earn arenas where battles and tournaments are held. Each Planet will have a different appearance but will not contain any unique statistics. In other words, the gameplay experience for users will be the same on each Planet. Owners of Planets will receive an income from the battles that take place in their arenas.
Players will be randomly allocated to a Planet so an equal number of battles take place in each arena each day. This will ensure the income for each Planet will be equivalent.
A very limited number of Planet NFTs will exist at any one time. When the game launches there will be two Planets in operation and a maximum of seven Planets will be released within the first two years. The number of Planets released will depend on the number of active players. Planets are also rich with natural resources which can be mined by a player’s ship.
NFT Blueprints
When a player has mined enough Steel Chips (off-chain asset) they may exchange it for a NFT Blueprint. Along with a payment of COSM, an NFT Blueprint can be used to mint a new Ship. One NFT Blueprint can be exchanged for one Ship only. An NFT Blueprint does not reveal the type of Ship that will be built or its specific characteristics. These will only be revealed when the Ship has been built.
Treasures
NFT Treasures will be awarded to tournament winners and for various other in-game accomplishments. These may enhance a player’s experience in various ways.
Utilities
Utility NFTs include magic, instant effects, and buildings which will perform an important role in a player’s battle strategy. Magic/instant effects may teleport a Champ to another part of the arena or rain missiles on the opponent’s base. Buildings may be defensive structures that fire lasers at the opponent’s Champs or manufacture Champs that launch into battle every few seconds.
2D & 3D Models
Each NFT has a 2D card representation in a player’s deck and a 3D model when used in gameplay.
Champs Traits
Each Champ NFT has up to 9 traits. The traits differ for each type of Champ. Some traits enhance the in-game statistics of the character, while others are purely aesthetic and/or are reserved for future functionality. Below are examples of traits for Champ NFTs:
- Guild : Rusters
- Strength : Legendary
- Size : Colossus
- Golden Eyes
- Steam-Powered
- Sharpshooter
The number of possible combinations of these traits is almost limitless and will allow for a sophisticated rarity index. When considering the play-to-earn aspect of the game, traits that affect in-game statistics might be more sought after. Some visual aspects of NFTs might be equally sought after (e.g. golden eyes, collaboration NFTs) due to their rarity.
NFT Release Schedule
Each quarter will see the birth of a new generation of NFT Champs and Ships. The number of different types and the number of NFTs minted for each type will differ each season depending on a number of factors. The Genesis season (Season 1) will contain 1560 NFTs in total. These NFTs will provide exclusive value to holders, making it worth investing in a Season 1 NFT and then holding on to it.
NFT Staking
We want to add as much value as possible to owning and holding Cosmic Champs’ NFTs. Owners of our NFTs will be able to stake them to earn rewards.
Where can I get my Cosmic Champs NFT
When we launch, we will have our own page on an existing marketplace for exclusively trading our NFTs. Players can buy, sell, and trade Cosmic Champs NFTs using $COSG. Each transaction will incur a small royalty fee that goes into the community treasury to help the Cosmic Champs ecosystem flourish. Our vision is to build our own marketplace so we can simultaneously reduce fees for users and increase the flow of revenue to the community treasury. It’s a win-win for everyone.
