I am an undergraduate Media Criticism student at New York University. For my capstone project, I was asked to evaluate how the news media, at large, are or are not reporting on an issue of my choosing — I chose America’s worsening opioid epidemic. I have no ambition to diagnose the epidemic itself; rather, as both a news reader and student, I am examining the quality and quantity of reporting around this emotive and controversial issue.
