Amila Kulasinghe — Credify’s new Head of Legal & Regulatory Affairs

As the Credify team continues to follow-up with all of the excellent contacts made at the Malta Blockchain Summit — for more on that visit here — we have also been working to make sure we have the best people in place to continue our mission of providing the highest levels of transactional counterparty trust with the Credify protocol. As such, the Credify team is proud to welcome Amila Kulasinghe as Head of Legal & Regulatory Affairs.

Amila joins us with a storied career, beginning as a commercial barrister specialising in offshore trusts, banking, and financial services, and subsequently practicing in the City of London, where he worked with the likes of Goldman Sachs on projects including derivatives trading platforms, cross-border collateralised lending, and ETF/ETC structured products. Amila’s career in financial services also included a number of years working in front office investment banking, during which time he qualified as a CFA Charterholder and held the position of Director in the Hedge Fund Prime Services Division at Barclays Capital.

Amila is a graduate of Oxford University, where he gained a BA in Law, and of University College London, where he obtained an LLM in Commercial Law, undertaking research in the law of global derivatives markets and international banking insolvencies. Motivated by a long-standing interest in payment systems and securities markets technologies, Amila established a boutique legal and business consultancy advising firm in the fintech sector, and since 2015 has focused his practice exclusively on cryptocurrency and blockchain-related projects. He has extensive experience working on the legal and regulatory aspects of token issuance programmes across numerous jurisdictions, as well as on contract structuring for crypto trading and custody services.

Dallas Johnston, Credify’s CEO, shared, “Having Amila join our team at this stage is a massive win for Credify. The depth of knowledge, insight, and wisdom that Amila brings to the team is exactly what we need as we begin to pursue expansion of the protocol into fintech applications like loan collateralisation, on-chain letters of credit, and reduction of counterparty credit risk in derivatives and structured products. Amila’s passion for social impact and keen interest to see the proper alignment of financial products on blockchain with appropriate and effective real-world governance frameworks is at the very heart of what we are going to achieve with Credify. We are humbled and excited that Amila has agreed to join our team as we continue on this journey of Credify’ing the world!”

“I am delighted to be joining Credify and am excited at the prospect of working alongside an outstanding team with such a diverse array of skills, committed to developing truly effective online reputation systems and self-sovereign digital identity solutions,” said Amila. “In addition to supporting work on Credify’s core services for e-commerce, I am particularly enthusiastic about exploring applications for the protocol in the social impact and microfinance space, as this is very much aligned with my subsidiary research interests analysing the interplay between legal frameworks supporting international human rights, development, and business. I look forward to working closely with the exceptionally talented individuals on the Credify Team to build and deliver a truly groundbreaking platform.”

The entire team is happy to welcome Amila on board as he will work to ensure that all of the solutions developed around the core Credify protocol will be done in accordance with the strictest levels of legal and regulatory compliance. As we continue to move forward with development, Amila will be a key figure in our endeavor to bridge Credify’s platform and products with the regulatory frameworks that govern the world of commerce and finance.
