One thing that we think separates Cryptic Conjure from the majority of blockchain gaming is the very significant focus we’ll be placing on narrative. Most crypto games focus almost exclusively on collectables and trading, and that’s cool, but we want to tell a deep and involved story in Cryptic Conjure, to increase the depth and complexity of the world of Kyra.
Upon entering the game (and proceeding through a bit of a tutorial dungeon), players will find themselves in Rathe, the capital city of Kyra. Rathe is also the headquarters of the Iridium Corporation, an overarching megaconglomerate that controls the majority of wealth and political power within the country. Though our world is clearly fantasy, we’ve taken strong inspiration from more dystopian, cyberpunk worlds.
The Iridium Corporation is led by President Alamai, but he rarely, if ever, appears out in the open; the public-facing head of Iridium is functionally Vice President Lemma, who also controls the ninth seat on the Council of Nine.
The Iridium Corporation’s official business is the acquisition and creation of Essence, but in practical terms, they’ve established a functional monopoly. They officially control all eight of the elemental dungeons surrounding Rathe, which hold most of the raw materials necessary to create new spells. They allow adventurers to descend into those dungeons, but at a cost. Still, a resistance led by a mysterious figure named Gard has found a way to circumvent those restrictions and establish a black market trade of spells and Essence outside the purview of Iridium.
Still, the Iridium Corporation seems to have a hidden agenda. They turn a blind eye to certain activities, and hone in on seemingly random objectives. And amidst all of this drama, a voice calls to you, specifically: a figure named Cross, a vicious warlord from long ago. Cross wants something from you, though he won’t yet tell you what it is. How could he still be alive? And what is his objective?
Cryptic Conjure will tell its narrative through traditional cutscenes in Unreal Engine 4, complete with motion captured animation and voice acting. Lucid Sight is based in Los Angeles, and we’ve worked with top-flight actors before, including Wil Wheaton, Ashly Burch, Laura Bailey, Yuri Lowenthal, and more. Presentation is a key focus for us, and we’ll be making sure players see the kind of value they’ve come to expect from the modern generation of gamemakers.
