When you think of crowdfunding, you may think of Kickstarter, Initial Public Offerings(IPOs), or even Initial Coin Offerings(ICOs), but have you heard of Initial DICE Offerings(IDOs)? To understand IDOs, we will need to understand what exactly DICE is.

DICE is an abbreviation of DIgital CErtificates which consists of small blocks of bundled data that conform to certain specified rules. DICE provides an effective platform for raising funds through crowd-supported cryptocurrency mining. The computational power used to generate each data block determines its intrinsic monetary value, similar to how notes and coins issued by central banks carry intrinsic monetary value guaranteed by the issuing bank. Hence, this means that in spite of DICE being a digital currency, it can be used in the same way as real-world currency.

One of DICE’s special features is its ability to raise funds through IDOs. In stark contrast to other fundraising methods like IPOs and ICOs, IDOs have minimal expenses with most of costs coming from the server hardware and software used. DICE operates on a cluster model system, where nodes in the network are called operators and they each have their own group of miners. Miners help to bundle and generate new DICE units based on a set of parameters defined by the operators. In turn, the valuation of every DICE unit mined is added to the overall valuation of the operator. Hence, investors who wish to contribute funds don’t actually contribute money but instead contribute their computational resources. Miners who are interested in acquiring equity in the operator’s business or service can choose to pay in DICE associated with the operator. Thus, by simply being an operator, any organisation is able to raise funds easily without the need for a middleman.

With the advantages that an IDO brings, it is easy to envision a future where IDOs become the dominant form of fundraising. An IDO makes it easy for a company to source for funds and for investors to invest. Don’t be surprised if IDOs become the norm for crowdfunding in the future!
