This week our 1,000,000th Kitty was born, thanks to you

We’re pawsitively blown away, cool cats.

It’s been 289 days (as of this writing) since we launched CryptoKitties. On September 12, 2018, we welcomed our 1,000,000th Kitty, Vulcat, into the world.

That’s four million purrfect paws, two million enchanting eyes, and one million rubbable bellies — all in less than 10 months.

That’s some top-notch breedin’, friends.

Hisstory in the making

From the outset, it was our hope that cat lovers, blockchain enthusiasts, and the crypto curious alike would try their paw at collecting some of these adorable Kitties. Who doesn’t have a few spare minutes to play with some cute digital cats, right?

The overwhelming international response to CryptoKitties, however, has truly humbled us.

• Since November 2017, more than 340,000 Kitties have been sold, resulting in more than US $25 million being exchanged on the platform.
• More than 100 Kitties have sold for at least US $10,000, with one cat, the now fabled Kitty #127, fetching more than US $140,000 at a charity auction in New York. Proceeds from that sale went to a foundation supporting art on the blockchain.
• In our community Discord, we’ve averaged about 1,000 daily messages, with some recent days seeing nearly six times that volume. At its busiest late last year, more than 10,000 messages were written in our Discord in just one day.

These are impressive stats, to be sure. And since CryptoKitties launched, some of these eye-catching numbers have found their way into some of the world’s most widely-read publications, and led to impactful ecological initiatives supporting sea turtle conservation, like the one we created Honu for.

Catsistency is key

While the recognition is nice, the CryptoKitties story is more than just a collection of headlines. It’s the story of a community that loves and supports this game. That’s why now, nearly 10 months in, we’re as busy as ever. On September 11, 8,478 Kitties were born — our highest daily total since late 2017. Our recent ETH volume too has been amongst the strongest stretches we’ve had all year.

Community blows us away

It’s also that community dedication that led to the creation of the KittyVerse, where dozens of other cool games, projects, and tools are being built by third-party developers. Those new digital experiences, built on top of the CryptoKitties platform, is an ongoing source of inspiration for our team and directly informs how we evolve the game.

Another universe

The Nifty Kitty Program, as well, encourages developers to submit ideas for other CryptoKitties-inspired projects, that we will financially support to continue growing this community.

With your continued support, we’re excited to see how the community, and the game, evolves.

Because that’s why we’re here — to continue building a game our community wants to play, and support current and future CryptoKitties players and developers in any way we can. It takes a litter to raise a game, and we’ve been lucky to be a part this meowvement so far.
