Christine Chu, Country Lead of Dable Thailand

Christine Chu joined Dable in 2018 as the very first employee of Dable Taiwan. She started a new role as the Country Lead of Dable Thailand in 2022, overseeing local business operations. Prior to joining Dable, she built her professional expertise in various industries, including magazine publishing, intellectual property, and ad tech. She has conducted projects from industry leading companies including IBM, BCG and various global agencies.

Walking into Dable Thailand’s office, you can easily immerse yourself in the energetic vibes from people’s discussions mixed with laughter. Oct, Business Development Manager of Dable Thailand, said this about Christine Chu, “It’s easy to sense the positive attitude radiated from her. Also, she always delivers a ‘can-do’ spirit that motivates us to break through all challenges.”

“Back in 2018, I was looking for opportunities to enter the ad tech industry and voilà! A university senior told me that Dable had a job opening and was looking for a candidate to help the company expand its businesses across Asia.” Christine then successfully joined Dable as a Business Development Manager, and became the first employee of Dable Taiwan.

She had to take care of all office affairs including office setup, regulatory and administrative paperworks, accounting, staff recruiting and also her main responsibility: driving local business growth and consolidate Dable’s market position in Taiwan. Now, Dable has become the largest content discovery platform in Taiwan. In the meantime, Dable Taiwan has grown steadily and become the largest overseas subsidiary of Dable.

Dable’s Corporate Culture Drives Personal Career Growth

Christine attributes her success to Dable’s corporate culture. “We are encouraged to share ideas and have the spirit of experimenting. My supervisors often tell us not to fear making mistakes, because failure makes perfect. However, most people were taught that mistakes make life miserable therefore they tend to avoid trying new things and prefer taking traditional paths while performing tasks.“

Innovation and entrepreneurship are in the DNA of Dable’s culture. Dablers are encouraged to carry out trials to enhance work efficiency and perform beyond the company’s goals. Most importantly, learning at all times not only from success cases but also from failures.

Dable has a flat organisation that is conducive to cross-functional communication. Whenever issues occur, project owners can raise them to discuss with other team members through an internal communication system and there will always be people who share their ideas or experiences to help solve issues together. It is through such discussions that people learn from one another.

Dable’s corporate culture drives the company to grow rapidly. In 2021, the company was selected as one of the top 500 Asia-Pacific High-Growth Companies by ‘Financial Times’, a leading financial publisher of the United Kingdom.

The Potential of Digital Media Industry in Thailand

Thailand is recognized as an emerging country and its economic development has attracted multinational companies to set up local branches in the nation.

Research has shown that the digital economy in the country is expected to grow as much as 30% of its GDP in the next few years.

In recent years, the number of web pageviews has soared with the increase in Internet usage. At the same time, more and more users are complaining that they are often interrupted by unnecessary advertisements or are directed to undesired content while browsing the web.

Dable saw the potential of Thailand and set up a Thai office in 2021 to offer personalised content recommendation solutions, aiming to improve users’ web browsing experience, and benefit publishers and advertisers.

Christine commented, “Dable in Thailand is a relatively new company at the moment. However, we are able to provide world-leading services with localised communication, and build up trusted collaborative relationships.” She also brought her experience from Taiwan, working with the Thailand team to touch base with local potential advertisers from various industries and strengthen Dable’s market position in Asia.

Building Curiosity and Maintaining a ‘People-Oriented’ Philosophy

Speaking of leadership, Christine believes being ‘people-oriented’ is the core value: “I am very interested in people. Especially during a conversation, I’ll put myself in the other party’s shoes to mull over the reasons behind their words before sharing my thoughts.”

Dable Thailand’s Media Partnership Manager Sue commented: “Christine always pays attention to what we say and works with us to improve the issues. Our work efficiency and performance have increased significantly after she joined the team. She’s really helpful in boosting the team’s morale.”

Simone, the Media Partnership Manager in Taiwan, also added: “I had a good time working with Christine in Taiwan. She could see everyone’s needs and provided necessary assistance to solve issues. Even though those issues were not within her job scope.”

Driving the Team Members’ Career growth is the Foremost Career Goal of Mine

Before coming to work in Thailand, Christine was concerned about culture misfit, “I’m a novelty seeker and like to be inspired by new people and things around me! For me, working with different people motivates me to learn. That’s why I accepted the challenge of transferring to the Thailand office.”

Thanks to Dable’s ‘Be the Expert’ programme, Christine registered for courses to enhance her work skills in management and foreign languages, so that she can be confident in accepting the new challenge and make the transition smooth.

At her current career stage, as a country lead managing a team, Christine hopes to leverage Dable’s innovative and open corporate culture to create a satisfying balance between work and life for team members. This not only means to drive business growth, but also help each member to gain a sense of accomplishment at work to achieve personal career goals.

“I enjoy my life in Thailand. My colleagues say that I am talented in learning the Thai language, and I specialise in food-related conversation, so I’m hoping that one day I can order food in Thai fluently!” Christine said with a smile.
