What’s That Dang Card? — The Lawsuit and Settled Lawsuit!
This one’s pretty special.
The Lawsuit
Some say this has entered arbitration.
Series: 3
Artist: b0mann
What’s in the Picture?
The picture is an incredible interpretation of the lawsuit filed by chatters QueenOfSprinkles, the_rinux, MudokonQueen, MelfinaStarwind, and catsensei. In the image you can see that the judge is the global Twitch chat emote translated into emoticon as “:)” while Dan is on the hot seat getting ready to testify. The presumption is that the audience is made up of the 596, but when celebs get sued people want to watch.
What Does the Quote Mean?
The entire card is dedicated to the lawsuit that the above chatters served on Dan during his 2022 Annual Performance Review. There is literally no better way to explain this, so please pause reading this and go to this site and watch at least a couple minutes of the timestamped YouTube video: https://makedanplayhollowknight.com/
Welcome back! As you now know, The Lawsuit centers around Dan’s incomplete playthrough of Hollow Knight. The text of this card was one of the first clues chat had that Dan was seriously considering digging Hollow Knight out from the Graveyard of the Unplayed.
What’s Hidden in the Full Art?
When you widen the frame of this card, it makes the implications of the suit pretty obvious with the 596 asking Dan “When will you fulfill your promise?” Dan finally answered that question on May 8, 2023 when he began his playthrough with a promise to “sacrifice one week to the all time low concurrent viewership relic gods.” (@ 0:19) Which segues perfectly into….
Settled Lawsuit
“A guarantee of completion in the year of the lawsuit.”
Oh? Another Card? And This Isn’t Even an XL Article?
Nope, they just fit together perfectly, so I figured ‘why not?’
Cool! So, What’s in This Picture?
It’s fairly similar to the first card and relates to the same Hollow Knight lawsuit, but this is about settling that beef. On May 8, 2023, Dan began Hollow Knight Week. While Dan did defeat a boss which triggered the game’s credits to roll, there is still some controversy as to whether or not Dan upheld his legal obligations to “complete” the game or get 100% of the achievements the game offers. Despite this, the image shows Dan and the judge high fiving and celebrating the settlement while a Twitch mod takes notes.
