In the rapidly evolving field of natural language processing, dialogue

systems primarily employ a single step dialogue paradigm.

This paradigm is efficient but lacks the depth and fluidity of human interactions and does most often not appear natural.

Despite continuing efforts to improve the engagement in and consistency of chit chat dialogue systems, the majority of current work simply focuses on mimicking human-like responses, leaving the aspects of modeling understanding between the dialogists.

Research in cognitive science suggests that understanding is an essential signal for a high quality chit chat conversation

By employing a dual learning strategy and a further split post editing method, the project Stephanie has generated and utilized a high quality step by step dialogue dataset to fine tune existing LLMs, enabling them to perform step by step dialogues.

With tailored automatic and human evaluations being conducted to assess its effectiveness compared to the traditional single step dialogue paradigm.

The code, datasets and LLMs for Stephanie will be released soon.

That should be interesting to check out.

Human mimicry is omnipresent and often occurs without the awareness of the person mimicking or the person being mimicked.

There’s a lot of nonconscious mimicry, such as verbal, facial, emotional and behavioral.

And there’s the social, motivational and emotional conditions that inhibit automatic mimicry.

Is mimicry a communication tool at all?

And how will it affect humankind as a whole?

Neuropsychological research sheds light on the question of how humans mimic.

So without fully understanding much of how humans function, we still proceed to create AI tools that have a cognitive architecture that enables us to do what we perceive others will do?

As behavioral mimicry seems to be a product of learning or associations, how is this mirror effect that AI is built upon a benefit for humans as a whole?

Yes, the more you research the more questions pop out and seem to require an answer.

But isn’t that how you “make” money too?

By doing more research, becoming an expert in a new topic, then monetizing and doing collabs with bigger companies to earn further and so on.

Behavioral data on mimicry seems to be the new Goldmine.

So keep Up your own Critical thinking skills and know your own values 1st.
