The updates and innovations just keep coming for Flint wallet; you can read our two latest updates here and here. The two new features we detail here enhance the functions of Flint wallet and significantly improve the user experience of the wallet. These new features are deep links and a dApp bookmark function for Flint mobile. So what are deep links? And how does dApp bookmarking work on mobile?

Deep Links

What are Deep Links?

Mobile deep links are links that take the user to a specific part of a mobile app; this can be anything from someone’s Twitter profile, to a product page, to a page with a pre-populated form.

What Can I Do With Deep Links?

Deep links direct people to a specific part of a website or app. In Flint’s case, we’ve created two types of deep links.

  • Payment Links: These allow you to pre-structure a payment by adding a receiving address and a quantity of ADA. When clicked or scanned on a mobile device, the generated URL and QR code will take the user to the Send page in the Flint wallet mobile app. The fields will be pre-populated with the values the link creator entered, and the user simply presses “Continue,” enters their password, and hits “Send” to make the payment.
  • dApp Links: These allow you to send a specific internet page to other users, where it will open up for them in the Flint mobile dApp browser. For example, these can be used for a user to navigate directly to a listing on a marketplace in Flint’s mobile dApp browser, where they will be just a few clicks away from completing a purchase. This also enables users to generate links for dApps, or dApp pages, that they cannot find listed in Google search results and want to bookmark in Flint.

How do I Create Deep Links?

Anyone can create these two types of deep links on the Flint wallet website under the “Integrate Your dApp” tab in the header. Here is a deep link directly to this deep links page.

Using the deep link generator, you can choose from the two different types of links explained above. As mentioned previously, you can either generate a payment link and QR code that sends the user to the pre-populated send page on the Flint wallet app or create a dApp link that will open up a webpage in Flint wallet’s mobile dApp browser.

Mobile dApp Bookmarks

Our mobile dApp browser is an innovative step forward for Cardano mobile wallets, and you can read more about it here. We have upgraded this element of Flint mobile by adding a bookmarking function and some recommended dApps to help get users started on the decentralized web.

Our recommended dApps are visible in the mobile dApp browser tab, and based on what a user is doing in the app we will recommend additional dApps to a user that we think they might like.

Users can bookmark any dApp or webpage they like by simply using the add bookmark button in the bottom left-hand corner to add the page they’re browsing to the dApp “Browser” tab in their mobile Flint wallet.

Bookmark button on the bottom left-hand side of the dApp browser.

To remove a bookmarked page, click on the bookmark and click the same button, now orange, in the bottom left-hand corner.

These can be used to link directly to dApps and pages on the decentralized web. For example, an NFT listing you want to monitor, the mint page for an NFT drop, the farm page of a DeFi dApp, or the swap page for a pair of tokens you use regularly. This bookmarking feature will also allow users to bookmark and visit dApps and dApp pages that Google has not indexed yet.

What will you be bookmarking in Flint mobile?

What Else Is in this Update?

As mentioned, other elements of this Flint update include bug fixes and user experience enhancements that create an all-around smoother experience for users of the Flint browser extension and Flint mobile. These improvements include:

  • Numerical Keyboards: For fields that only require numbers, we’ve implemented numerical keyboards on Flint mobile to simplify filling these fields.
  • Mobile Rewards Withdrawal: Users of Flint mobile can now withdraw their staking rewards in Flint mobile. They can do this under the “Delegation” tab in the app.
  • NFT Names in Transaction History: Previously, in a user’s transaction history, a transaction where an NFT asset was sent or received would just say “+1 asset”. The user would have to either know what it was or delve into the transaction’s details to find out. Now, instead of saying “+1 asset”, the app displays the asset’s name, e.g., “+ My New NFT’s Name.”
  • Corrected Error Message: The Flint browser extension must be in full-screen mode to use Bluetooth to connect to your Bluetooth-enabled Ledger wallet. Previously, when trying to connect to Bluetooth with the browser extension in popup mode, users would receive an error message saying they had canceled their Bluetooth connection without giving them a reason. This error message has now been updated to tell users that they must use Flint in full-screen mode.
  • Fixed Moving Close Button: After sending assets, the close button on the page would keep shifting on the user, preventing them from closing the page. This has now been fixed, and that close button no longer moves around the page.
  • Optimizing Transaction Storage: Our integration of Carp significantly sped up transaction loading times in Flint wallet, yet some users with thousands of transactions still experienced slower than desired loading times. The database layer has been further optimized here, and users with large amounts of transactions should now experience faster transaction loading times.

Give Deep Links a Go on Flint Mobile!

The updates are coming thick and fast for Flint wallet as we continue to ensure that Flint stays top of its class. Deep links facilitate easier interactions and improve the transaction experience between users of the decentralized web. The new dApp bookmarks feature in our mobile dApp browser allows users to bookmark their favorite dApps, pages, and features of a particular dApp, streamlining your navigation of the decentralized web!

Make sure you download the latest version of the Flint mobile app and update your browser extension to get access to and test out these new features! Once you’ve given them a try, let us know what you think about them through the links below!
