Dexlab is thrilled to announce the Initial DEX Offering of Moonfrost!

What is Moonfrost?

Moonfrost is a social simulation / role-playing game inspired by the likes of Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Rune Factory, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It’s a 2D metaverse that starts off as a small town and grows into a world. A social, online game where you can make friends, rescue animals, raise them, have adventures, fall in love, earn money, and trade with other players.

Moonfrost is about creating an idyllic fantasy life. It’s set in the present day in a fictional country village where folklore and mythology come to life. It’s a place away from the daily grind of work where everything is wholesome and friendly.

The game starts out as a farming game/animal rescue sanctuary. Each player has a plot of land that they can use to create their dream homestead in their chosen style. You can grow plants, trees, and crops, raise farm animals and pets, rescue animals, trade with other farmers, and help other players.

Over time the game world will expand to grow into a town around your dwelling where you will meet and interact with other characters and become part of their stories.

Product?

When we started out last summer (2021) it was clear the blockchain gaming space was full of frankly rubbish games. Most games weren’t even games but Defi products masquerading as games. Few teams had any real experience building games professionally. The user experience was plain awful. They typically required buying some tokens in exchange and then importing them into the game to start playing. This was a very convoluted process that puts off all but the most determined crypto enthusiasts. It presents such a barrier that the average gamer who isn’t into crypto won’t play that game.

These struck us as such obvious problems to fix. We decided it’s time to send the pro’s in — veteran’s from the games industry who actually know how to make good games that are first and foremost FUN. We’re going to raise the bar in quality and user experience and innovate. We see crypto games as a new kind of business model that’s different from premium and free-to-play games. It is an opportunity to do something new and different from what’s been done before.

Roadmap?

During the two years, I spent developing Stardew Valley on mobile, and think a lot about how this game could be improved, how could the genre be pushed forward, and what would you do in a sequel or a spin-off.

Around this time play-to-earn gaming was taking off. There was a documentary on YouTube about people in the Philippines making a living wage from playing Axie Infinity. I’d been watching the crypto games space since 2018 and it made me think this is now the right time to enter. I put together a plan for Moonfrost which is like a bigger, better, spiritual successor to Stardew Valley, made by a team of pro’s. Gina made some amazing art. We started approaching investors from the games industry and the crypto world. We had a huge amount of interest. It was quite common that we’d do a video call and be offered a million dollars within half an hour. The seed round was heavily oversubscribed. We wanted to take everyone’s money but had to be pragmatic and chose a small handful of investors who we felt added the most strategic value to the project. This includes Supercell which we think is a really big deal. This is the first crypto game they have invested in. Their belief in us and the project makes us super doxxed imo.

Also, we will be launching a Pet NFT sale in the coming months. You will be able to bring these animals onto your farm in-game and interact with them. They’re really fantastic and like no other game has done before. I can promise it’ll be well worth the wait.

We’re in this for the long term. Moonfrost is a big and ambitious game and we plan to be around for many years. A lot of love and care is going into making a game that’s full of heart and soul. It’s not just going to be a great crypto game, it’s going to be a great game, period. The fact it has NFTs just makes it better.

Team?

Ric Moore, the CEO, has been running games studios since 2010. He co-founded and was CTO of Bossa Studios where he won a BAFTA for their first game Monstermind. Bossa was acquired in 2012 by Shine Group. Ric moved on and started a new mobile games studio called The Secret Police. There they made a Japanese-style role-playing game called Dragons Watch and later made Stardew Valley for mobile. Stardew has been a huge success across all platforms selling over 20m copies.

Gina Nelson, co-founder, ‘boss witch’ and art director on Moonfrost. She has been working in the games industry for over 12 years and shipped 14 games. Some of these games were with major brands including Gears of War, Star Wars, Hasbro, Disney, Mediatonic, Lionsgate, and Scopely. Gina joined The Secret Police as the art lead on Dragons Watch which is where she and Ric met.

Currently, the team is around 16 and growing. They are spread across numerous countries and have previously worked at big-name studios including Epic, Ubisoft, GameLoft, Natural Motion, Sumo, Zynga, and PikPok.

If you are in the ranking according to the staked quantity, you will get a guaranteed part in IDO sales depending on your ranking. It will follow the existing ranking system. If you do not stake, you will not be included in the ranking.

Standard Pool

If you participate in the standard pool but DO NOT stake, you will receive 1 ticket. If you do stake your DXL, you will get 1 ticket per 100 DXL. The winning rate increases with the number of tickets you have. For example, if you have 5 tickets, you have a higher winning rate compared to 1–4 tickets holders. After applying with your wallet to the whitelisting, the quantity available for you to purchase will be displayed next to your rank. It will take a few moments for the ranking to appear after participating.
