A type of journalism whose goal is to misinform a target audience forging erroneous, decontextualized, or false information, and spreading it via both traditional media and online channels which usually have a look and feel similar to trusted news outlets.

Fake news are often used for financial or political gain, but also to increase audience, virality, or clickbait revenue.
