Summer’s here — time to hit the beach and the pool, keep our sanity and our cool — and still find time to read? Yes, of course!

Regular Issues of ‘Digging’

As always, just send the URL to one of your older (4 months or more) stories.

Easy — Open your story, edit if necessary, copy the URL at the top of the screen and send it to me in the comments of a recent issue or newsletter of this pub.

We’re up to issue #18 not counting all the special editions we’ve had in between. I’ve heard people say they’ve had many more reads on their old stories, so let’s get more of them out there.

Issue #18 is in the works — not too late to send a story.

It could be on almost anything, but please do read the GUIDELINES HERE (for old stories) as I do have a few types of stories I do NOT want.

Special TOPICS Section in Regular Issue

Each issue of ‘Digging’ has a section at the bottom with a special topic. It is NOT mandatory to follow this topic. Like I said above, send anything as long as it follows the guidelines —

but if you wish to send a story for the Special topic you may do that also.

Send as a single story, I’ll know to put it in the Topics Section

or send a LIST — if you have 2 to 3 stories of that same topic, put them into a LIST instead, and send the URL for the whole list.

Upcoming topics (to see full descriptions, go to Guidelines).

ISSUE #18 — Gardening Stories

ISSUE #19 — Bullying

ISSUE #20 — Old Age

A RECENT NEW ADDITION

Recently I added a new feature to the ‘Digging Up Bones’ publication — I added a section for Anthologies of OLD stories.

I’m not going to say it’s a huge success just yet, but there has been interest, some stories have been published, and I’m assuming some of you are still thinking about it.

New Anthology Section

If you open the ‘Digging Up Bones’ publication you’ll see a tab called ‘Anthologies.’ To submit a story to this, you do not have to wait for an issue of the publication to come out to have your stories highlighted.

All you have to do is:

Create a new story in draft — a simple, short story with a title that kind of lets us know it’s an anthology or collection or something. THEN highlight between 3 and 6 of your OLD stories that follow the ‘digging’ guidelines.

It IS that easy. READ MORE INFO HERE TO CREATE A NEW STORY. Ask to be a writer, then submit your draft to ‘Digging Up Bones,’ and don’t forget to use Anthology as one of your topics.

REQUEST / CHALLENGE — There are many of you who receive emails when I post a story — which means you guys will read this. I would love to put out more of the Anthology stories, and I would love to post ONE A DAY.

HERE IS A SIMPLE SAMPLE
Short Anthology of My Best Stories

I’ve been told this is a fantastic way to GET MORE STORIES OUT THERE FASTER, so let’s see if that’s true.

THE CHALLENGE: Send your NEW Story with your 3–6 OLD stories highlighted and let me know the STATS on them after your story is published.

They will be published in the order they are received.

BUT…

some of the ones that came to me so far were much more complicated than they needed to be. KEEP IT SIMPLE —

  • One short introductory paragraph to let us know what type of stories you’re highlighting — niche or random -- specific topic or no topic — up to 4 sentences.
  • Then a short title AND short paragraph about that story (up to 4 sentences), then, of course, the highlighted story (copy the URL and hit enter).

It’s so easy, I think some of you are over-thinking it.

Please NO emojis, fancy large print, or multiple pictures, just one at the top under the Title/Subtitle, keep it simple and easy to read, after all it’s about getting reads on your old stories, not filling your new story with too much info.

If you need help, let me know.

Here are two of our newest writers (and so many more of you expressed a desire to write one, I can’t wait to receive it!).

Angie Mangino, Deborah Barchi

That’s all for now, folks! Happy Reading!
