The concepts of business engineering emerged during the industrial age in the 1980's where computers and software evolved. Based on transactional, stable processes executed in large corporations. Information technology, often introduced as enterprise-resource-planning "ERP", was managed as critical resources to support traditional operations by huge IT-departments. Today, information technology as is, is just a pure commodity. It is available everywhere with almost no limits and rapidly decreasing costs. Everyone and every corporation have it. You can switch it on and off. Everywhere, every time. Enterprises are not be able to manage the switch to digital using old concepts from the 80's focusing on a different business context. Therefore, "Digineering" is an adoption of the classical engineering concept for the digital world as we approach 2020. "Digineering" is an initiative to establish skills and methods mastering business re-engineering in the digital era. Hosted by e-ThinkTank e.V. and bps GmbH, Germany.
