Welcome to part 2 of the Digital Twins home of the future blog series! This article will begin with some information about the internet of things, before detailing the hardware, sensors and items I've purchased to build my house into a Digital Twin!

No doubt you’ve heard the term “The Internet of Things” or at the very least “Smart Device”, in this day of age, it would be surprising or even concerning if you had never encountered a smart device. Google home or Amazon Alexa, there are smart phones, smart cars, smart fridges! The Internet of Things is growing at a crazy rate, with Juniper Research placing the total number of currently online IoT devices at 46 billion globally.

That's ~ 15 times the number of devices that run have run java since 1997

So what exactly is the Internet of Things?

I like to describe it as:

“A network of physical things that are attached with sensors, software and other technology for the purpose of collecting and communicating…
