Idea: When seeing who viewed your Snapchat Story, quickly send text/audio/video with your Story attached for context, swipe to chat, and indicator if person is viewing what you sent 4.6.2016 (#104)

Purpose is to make easy to converse about something that you know a friend saw, such as to get their thoughts on where you were or ask about their relevant experience. Opportunity is to make ability to interact with people quick and easy in a consistent way to where you see people in the app.

Start on your My Story #2 of #4, tap to see viewers, then press and hold to send an audio message then press and hold to send a video message, then see that Person 1 is “Viewing now :)” then swipe to chat, then send a message to Person 1 and see that Person 1 finished viewing the audio/Story attached and is viewing in the chat view, then Person 1 sends you a message back. Designed by D.J. Sherrets.

Snapchat today:

  • Snapchat Chat 2.0 allows to press and hold record an audio or video note then release to cause to send.
  • Snapchat lets you tap on your My Story including with the ability to see who has viewed your Story. There is no ability to interact with the people shown there, other than long press to open the name of the person and then select to chat or send a message.
  • Even if you do tap to send a viewer a message, there is no ability to include the actual Story photo/video that the person viewed. A problem then is that the person may forget what what actually sent.
  • Snapchat lets viewers of a Story to swipe up to comment which then also includes a thumbnail that can be tapped by the person who posted the story to be reminded of the photo/video.

Proposed idea:

  1. Start on your My Story #2 of #4. Tap to see the viewers.
  2. Press and hold on audio for Person 1 to record audio message then release to send to Person 1.
  3. Press and hold on video for Person 2 to record video message then release to send to Person 2.
  4. Note that Person 1 is “Viewing now :)” then swipe to go to chat with Person 1, and note that Person 1 is indicated to be listening to the audio that you sent with the ability to see the Story that was attached.
  5. Tap to write a message, then tap to send.
  6. Note that the viewing now indicator changes when the person finishes listening to the audio message and/or attached Story so is back in the Chat view.
  7. Note that Person 1 is typing, and then Person 1’s message is sent to you.

Comments:

  • An opportunity is to make interacting with the viewers easier and to include the photo/video Story so there’s context.
  • Note that you can swipe right on anyone to chat with that person and any chat automatically includes the Story to provide context. This can be indicated by in the chat box showing a small thumbnail of the Story and so when tapping send that thumbnail in chat box expands to show the larger thumbnail as shown in the design.
  • In this design, Person 1 already received an appended Story and was still viewing, so the Story was not appended when swiping to chat.
  • People who view your Story may not comment, but you may want to comment to a viewer based on knowing that the Story has been viewed.
  • For example, you may visit a place that someone who viewed has visited before, and you could ask a question.
  • Or someone may view art that you made, and you could message to ask for an opinion.
  • Or someone may view your Story who hasn’t viewed your Story in quite a while, and you could ask to see how they are doing, and maybe ask about something specific to your photo/video.
  • A reason to not do this is that people may not frequently look at viewers.
  • Or a reason to not do this is that there may not be a frequent number of cases where the person who posted a Story wants to interact with a viewer and to include that Story in the message.
  • This idea is an extension of my idea #100 that includes the ability to send audio and video notes from the Chat view: https://medium.com/dj-sherrets/idea-press-and-hold-to-record-audio-or-video-notes-on-snapchat-from-chat-view-to-make-faster-to-49f97a1ce06a#.cxe6tpsiw.
