Exporting Maps

You can export a map in DRA 2020 to a variety of formats that interoperate with other tools that you & others may use.

Export options

To export a map, first open it and then click the Export command on the application command bar (the arrow icon pointing to the upper right). Then choose the export format that you want and click the Export button. The file will be created in your downloads folder.

  • To export a block-assignment file that you can load into a tool like Maptitude, choose the Block Assignment option — you can import a block-assignment file using the Import command
  • To export a precinct-assignment file, choose the Precinct Assignment option — Note: if a precinct is split, the individual blocks for the precinct will be enumerated instead
  • To export all the census, demographic, and election data aggregated by district, choose the District Data option
  • To export all the census, demographic, and election data aggregated by precinct, choose the Precinct Data option — Note: if a precinct is split, there will be one row for each part of the overall precinct
  • To export an image of the map that you can share, e.g., on Twitter, choose the “Map Image” option
  • To export all the analytics that DRA produces, e.g., so you create your own report format for them, choose the Map Analytics option —the Map Analytics Export Format post describes the format in detail
  • To export the district-by-district data that DRA uses to calculate the analytics, choose the District Abstract option —the District Abstract Export Format post describes the format in detail
  • To export the district shapes that you can import into another GIS-enabled tool, like PlanScore, choose the District Shapes option
  • To export a map so can save it externally and later load it back into DRA, choose the Map Archive option

Note: We enhanced the district shapes geojson to include the district statistics as properties on the shapes. If your map was last scored before we made that change though, it won’t have these properties. To get them in the exported geojson, simply toggle a Colors or Overlays setting on and then off (or vice versa). That will force the map to be re-scored and the properties to be included when exporting the district shapes.
