What is Google Cloud Certification?
Google has several certifications including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other services. In this article, I would like to share their variation and benefits.
On our previous article “Instructional Materials For GCP”, we have known many tools for learning Google Cloud Platform (GCP). It also mentioned about where we can have the GCP certifications. But what kind of certifications we can have? Here are the variations.
Variation of Certifications
There are 11 types of certifications in total, with the following three levels:
- User Certification: Good for beginners who start using Google Workplace service
- Associate Certification: Good for beginners who use GCP
- Professional Certification: Good for professional developers who use GCP
1. User certification
User certification is the one of basic certifications to assess you to make good use of the Google platform. I think this is not really related to GCP but good for someone who just started using Google services.
2. Associate Certification
In associate certification, there is a Cloud Engineer. Google Cloud suggests the recommended experience is 6+ months building on Google Cloud for this Cloud Engineer.
The good news is, they provide the exam of Cloud Engineer in Bahasa Indonesia!
3. Professional certification
At the professional certification level, there are 8 types of certification. Google Cloud suggests that the recommended experience is 3+ years of IT field experience, including 1+ years on Google Cloud.
- Cloud Architect
- Cloud Developer (Beta)
- Data Engineer
- Cloud DevOps Engineer
- Cloud Security Engineer
- Cloud Network Engineer
- Collaboration Engineer
- Machine Learning Engineer

Benefits of the Certifications
2020 IT Skills and Salary Report by Global Knowledge says cloud computing and cybersecurity certification are associated with the highest salary around the world. Professional Cloud Architect is the highest-paying certification of 2019. Of course, certificated users get more responsibility or leadership roles at work.
In Asia Pacific, Google Cloud certification would get a salary of around $70,867 on average. It is almost IDR 1 billion! Of course, you must get more responsibility or leadership roles at work with your GCP skills as well. So it is good for your own career.
How to Get the Certifications
Most of those certifications are provided online, not only at test centers in Jakarta and Surabaya. If you choose the online test, you should check their requirements here.
To learn those certifications, Google Cloud has some content and for sure you would find some online training.
We should mind their retake policy for the exam.
If you don’t pass an exam, you can take it again after 14 days. If you don’t pass the second time, you must wait 60 days before you can take it a third time. If you don’t pass the third time, you must wait 365 days before taking it again.
