Wunderlist came out 6 years ago and did some incredible stuff. They were one of the first apps to do live syncing between platforms and collaboration. They also pioneered a beautiful interface that took out the complexity of adding and creating to-dos.

Once Microsoft purchased Wunderlist, things changed a bit. They attempted to build a new to-do list app over a year ago (Project Cheshire) that was short lived. They didn’t abandon trying to build a new to-do list as they just came out with Microsoft To-Do. With this launch they also announced they will be shutting down, the much accredited, Wunderlist all together in the near future.

Microsoft To-Do is missing a lot of features that users rely on daily with Wunderlist. There’s no subtasks, shared lists, attachments, or filters. Those are just the basic features to make it on par with Wunderlist. Wunderlist hasn’t released a distinguishable feature in the last 2 years — folders came out in March of 2015.

People aren’t happy to hear Wunderlist is going away. Jordan at Venture Beat is sharing people’s frustrations with the new app. And plenty of people are talking on Twitter:

You can find hundreds of tweets like this.

In exchange for all of these features they’ve built an already done Todoist/Any.Do suggestion planner, which basically just gives you an empty list everyday and tells you to work on the tasks you didn’t do yesterday. This can be done with a filter.

This is not a fair trade.

It’s not a bad feature to add, but it needs to be done in a way that can give you tasks that are not just marked as overdue, but intelligently knows which tasks are important, how long they take, how it works into your schedule, and what isn’t as important.

For example, in the screenshot above it suggests Groceries along side calling my Mom and emailing back someone. All of those have completely different context — In what world would I get chicken breast, call my Mom, then email back John, in that order? If you had overdue tasks that all took several hours to complete… it wouldn’t make sense for it to suggest all of those to be done in one day. You can read about how we’re solving this problem over here.

If you are a Wunderlist user, it’s time to make the switch to WeDo: it’s a beautiful and powerful way to-do and people love it.
