About
East Harlem Tutorial Program #BuildLove Project
For over 50 years, East Harlem Tutorial Program has worked to close the education gap in New York City. To celebrate the diversity of our community, particularly in today’s political climate, we worked with local artist, Manny Vega, to create a banner celebrating diversity.
Note from the editor

Since 1958, East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) has supported students to graduate college and realize their best possible selves through our network of community after-school programs and schools. Our families learn and live in East Harlem, but they come from all over the world. To celebrate the diversity of our community, particularly in today’s political climate, we worked with legendary artist Manny Vega to create a five story banner featuring the flags of Mexico, Ecuador, Pakistan, Syria, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Honduras, the United States the Pride flag, and the hashtag #BuildLove. The flags are stitched together, demonstrating that while we may come from different places, we are tied together by our common humanity. This is our story.
