In a description of his empire, 9th century Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus called this island Barzo. He claimed that it was the most beautiful and most prolific of the Adriatic islands.

Aside from the name, not much has changed on the island throughout the years. That means that when you get ‘stuck’ on this island you are forced to enjoy nature, eat great food, and chill on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Sounds horrible, right?

Although an island, Brač isn’t that small so the best option is to go by car, or rent one once you get there. You can also rent motorcycles, or, if you are a true adventure-lover, bikes might be your best option. Most of the ferries dock at Supetar, the biggest settlement on the island. Here you can find all you need to start your journey.

First thing’s first — one thing you have to do on this island is make a trip to Pučišća and its world-renowned mason school. The stone from Brač Island is famous around the world for its quality and has been used to build everything from Diocletian’s palace in Split, part of the United Nations building, and maybe even the pillars of the White House in Washington, DC, USA.

Vidova Gora, with its height of 778 meters, is not only the highest peak on Brač but also of all Adriatic islands. It’s also a lovely place to go for a hike. Best thing to do at the end of the hike: stand on top of Vidova Gora and turn a 360 degree circle. Seeing only water and other islands stretching out in all directions gives you a whole new perspective.

The cherry on the top is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world: Zlatni Rat. The pebbles on the peak of the beach shift with the current and wind so you never know how the beach will look. It’s a world phenomena and it’s simply impossible not to be amazed by it. Also, if you are an adrenaline junkie there are so many options to try and test the dare devil inside.
