2022 has been a journey! We wanted to pause before the holidays to reflect on our incredible year at Edge Analytics. We have continued to assemble an awesome team of people dedicated to building amazing things. We helped innovative companies create delightful, inspiring products. This year, we leaned into continuous learning and education.
We feel so fortunate to be a part of the incredible Edge community. Our team members and clients are fantastic people who continue to inspire and motivate us. Thank YOU for being a part of this journey!

What does Edge Analytics do?
Edge Analytics is a data science consulting company. Edge was born out of a simple desire to work with our friends and do things together that make a positive difference in the world. We are a team of ML engineers, data scientists, firmware specialists, and cloud architects who partner with companies to ship cutting-edge algorithms.
In 2022, we continued to build an incredible team
Five new people joined the Edge team this year: Joshua, Lauren, Colin, Will, and Connor. Each brings valuable insights and perspectives to the table. We couldn’t be more excited to have these incredible new team members join the Edge family!
Fun facts about our new team members:
- Joshua was the first person to graduate from Duke University with both an MD and an M.Eng in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
- Lauren is a traditional woodworker who creates beautiful furniture without using power tools.
- Colin holds a private pilot’s license (a license for flying small single-engine aircraft).
- Will is an avid rock climber and cyclist. Recently he restored two vintage race bicycles from the 1970s.
- Connor built an algorithm currently being used for triaging patients in the ED at Duke Hospital. He has also traversed the US twice by foot (PCT and Continental Divide Trail).
We came together multiple times this year from all over North America to create incredible memories. Our virtual game nights were a huge hit, and we’ve sharpened our Codenames skills. The wedding of Edge’s founders, Sidney and Lina, was an unforgettable experience we celebrated together.
We focused efforts on continuous learning and education
Launched the Edge AI Residency Program
This year we launched the Edge AI Residency Program and graduated our inaugural resident, Don Wei, MD, PhD.
The Edge Analytics AI Residency Program is the natural evolution of The Edge Process, which places emphasis on the investment into the growth and learning of the Edge team. The program provides mentorship to our residents and enables them to experience real, hands-on work producing algorithms for our clients (check out some of our past and current projects here). Edge AI Residents are equal contributors and fully integrated into the Edge team — they work closely with us to bring value to our clients from day one. Explored New Ideas with Cool Tools Series on YouTube
From generative models to python serialization to matplotlib animations, Edge team members shared tools and methods that we are excited about in data science, machine learning, and software development. We worked on innovative products with amazing partners.
Here are just a few of the amazing products we worked on in 2022:
Building Algorithms for Bionic Clothing at CIONIC
CIONIC, a major partner that helps people transcend physical limitations, hit many big milestones this year. This spring, they received FDA 510k clearance for the Cionic Neural Sleeve, and they recently announced a $12.5M Series A funding round. Participant trials culminated in a research paper (currently a preprint with Edge team members Ren and Brinnae as authors) showing that 94% of participants felt a reduction in the effects of foot drop when using the Cionic Neural Sleeve. We are so excited for this product to ship soon. In the meantime, you can watch inspiring patient stories here.
Consumer Product with Fortune 500 Company
We continued close collaboration with one of our major partners to build algorithms and firmware infrastructure for a consumer product, releasing soon! We’re excited to see the impact of this product for end users.
Model Interpretability at a Stealth Healthcare Startup
We developed novel ML model interpretability methods for one of our partners, a stealth healthcare startup.
Edge-incubated company Infinity AI making a splash in the synthetic data space
Last year we spun out our first company from the Edge Incubator — Infinity AI! In 2022, synthetic data has been touted as starting a revolution, and we like to think Infinity AI has played a big part in that.
What has Infinity been up to? Here are some highlights from 2022:
- Announced $5M seed round with Matrix
- Released the world’s largest open-source marketplace for synthetic datasets (1M free frames and more added every month)
- Built a scalable API infrastructure that has allowed their customers to generate over 5M synthetic data frames at the click of a button
We’re really proud of Infinity and can’t wait to see what they do next!
