Take conscious ownership of what is yours

On October 25,

published Version 1.63.0 of their desktop wallet software. With this version came the introduction of EOS main-net functionality, including sending and receiving EOS tokens. Up until then, EOS tokens were frozen, although users could see the balance and the indicative fiat value. The release notes did not explicitly mention staking properties of EOS tokens.

2 days ago the team made an announcement regarding the staking of tokens.

What you cannot do in Exodus is manage your stake in the EOS network, vote for block producers, manage delegation of resources or buy and sell RAM.

Exodus recommended the use of a 3rd party wallet and specifically mentioned Simpleos, developed by EOS Rio. Following a security warning video by Crypto Tim, Kris from Exodus confirmed the claims that users tokens were automatically unstaked as part of the EOS main-net activation process on the wallet.

“…if a developer of a Dapp had resources delegated for the Dapp to function, the auto-unstaking would have caused the Dapp to stop working, If an EOS user had votes cast for a favorite BP, their voting would have been stopped. If a user had all of their EOS staked into the network for personal security reasons, their plan would have been broken.”

Kris acknowledged that the process could have been managed better and that his team were grappling with the demands of integrating all functionality of EOS tokens and the utility of trading tokens across other networks. In the future, Kris vouched to not make this type of mistake again. He said that there was no security breach.

The only breach was making those actions using private keys on behalf of token holders.
