Welcome to another edition of the Ethereum Cat Herders community update to bring you up to the speed since the last update.

Ethereum 2.0

Spadina testnet launch

  • The Spadina testnet is launched today. It’s a final practice, a dress rehearsal for (Phase 0) Eth2.0 launch. It is planned to be a short-lived testnet — for about 72 hrs.
  • Testnet launch recording available.
  • The initial node participation reported was 34%. It’s time to start your node.
  • It is observed that the Launch tooling are very effective, but the same kind of issues reported that was observed with the Madalla testnet.
  • According to Danny, 90% of the expected results have been achieved, it gave users a chance to run everything, developers a chance to run everything. Implementers will try to look into the issue and try to figure things out.
  • The Spadina Launchpad is live.

Hudson Jameson helped run the live stream on behalf of the Cat Herders. The Cat Herders will continue to help on future calls as needed with their input.

Ethereum 1.0 clients’ update

Ethereum All Core Developers meeting

EIP-1057: ProgPoW,

  • EIP-1057 will be merged but clients are not obligated to implement it.
  • The community will set up a testnet for ProgPOW but core developers will not be responsible to maintain it.

EIP-2539: BLS12–377 curve

James Prestwich, from CeloOrg mentioned that they would like to contribute to the work on EIP-2537: Precompile for BLS12–381 curve operations as well as EIP-2539: BLS-12377.

EIP-1559: Fee market change

  • Geth and Besu team are working on investigating whether the network could handle 2x sized blocks for even a short period of time. This is one of the road blockers for the proposal.
  • Tim Beiko requested for feedback on EIP-1559.

Ethereum Cat Herders

1559 Outreach

  • Cat Herders are reaching miners, wallets, exchanges, on-chain projects, and infrastructure providers to provide intro of the fee market change proposal and collect feedback, suggestions if they have any.
  • To open a channel of communication, we’re also scheduling meeting to understand challenges to implemnet the proposal at the user ends and answer any questions.
  • So far, 21 responses have been recorded that includes 5 user interviews.
  • Volunteers to answer the questionnaires and the user interview includes projects like Etherscan, Infura, Chainlink, Metamask, Synthetix, and various mining pools and individual miners.
