Since the launch of the Etherlink testnet in July 2023, the network has evolved quickly. It is currently in its final stage before launch, mainnet beta, and continues to be refined as the ecosystem continues to grow.

With the launch on the horizon, this post shares the progress made during the first two quarters of 2024 and the exciting roadmap for Q3.

Q1: Achievements during testnet

The Q1 roadmap, outlined on the Etherlink website, has been successfully delivered, with all milestones reached.

  • Sub-second confirmation times: Fine-tuning during this quarter resulted in lightning-fast transaction processing, with confirmation times of less than a second.
  • Developer-friendly infrastructure: Tools and resources like Blockscout, The Graph, and Redstone were integrated into the testnet.
  • Community engagement channels: Twitter, Medium, and Discord were launched to foster an open dialogue and gather valuable feedback.
  • EVM compatibility: Etherlink became fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) allowing developers to seamlessly integrate with the Ethereum ecosystem and gain access to its vast resources.
  • Trustlessness: From Q1, upgrades were handled by Tezos L1 governance contracts, eliminating the need for reliance on specific individuals or groups.
  • Scaling Web3 Hackathon: Encode launched a four-week hackathon in May to build on Etherlink. Teams innovated and collaborated to tackle Web3 scalability and shape the future of blockchain.

Q2: Mainnet beta and beyond

With Q2 in full steam, the mainnet beta rollout and upcoming events are emphasized.

  • DeFi Catalyst Accelerator (DCA): Launched on April 15th, this program supports six innovative DeFi projects, offering resources and mentorship to drive the growth of decentralized finance initiatives.
  • Mainnet beta rollout: This crucial milestone involves onboarding partners and ensures a safe, production-ready environment for the full-scale launch.
  • Community-led governance: From day one of the mainnet beta rollout, Etherlink’s governance has been community-driven.
  • Security: Comprehensive testing and additional audits are conducted to ensure the system’s integrity.
  • More integrations: Expanding Etherlink’s network, including operators and node providers, and integrating infrastructure partners for oracles, explorers, and bridges, remains a priority.
  • Quests: The upcoming Etherlink Quests will challenge and reward participants with an engaging experience.
  • Hackathons: Stay tuned for announcements of more hackathons where developers, innovators, and blockchain enthusiasts can showcase their talents and compete for prizes.

Q3: Etherlink launch and expansion

During Q3, Etherlink’s infrastructure will be refined, security protocols will be further improved, and the ecosystem will continue to expand.

  • Launch: Expect lower fees, MEV protection, improved data availability, increased throughput and bandwidth.
  • EthCC: Visit Etherlink’s booth at EthCC, one of the biggest Ethereum community events of the year. Stay tuned for further details, including side events and ways to get involved.
  • TezDev: The annual developer conference for Tezos enthusiasts takes place on July 11th during EthCC. It will focus on rollup-centric technology in the Tezos ecosystem, including Etherlink.
  • MEV protection: Etherlink will implement MEV (Miner Extractable Value) protection mechanisms to ensure a fair and transparent transaction environment.
  • DAL integration: Integrating Tezos’ Data Availability Layer (DAL) will enhance scalability and improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness on Etherlink.
