Blockchain-based digital vehicle registration — evan.network cooperates with carTRUST
carTRUST — Simply register, re-register and deregister vehicles online
A lot of analogous documents are required for the registration of a vehicle in Germany. Even if a lot of the information and evidence needed for the registration of a vehicle are available in a digital form, a proof of the power of disposition is still provided using the vehicle registration document (ZBII).
With carTRUST, Christoph Kroschke GmbH enables a vehicle registration without analogous documents for the first time, making the proofs completely digital. Using the blockchain technology, the necessary information and the proofs are stored in a tamper-proof manner and made verifiable by all participants.
With regard to technology range, the carTRUST team has chosen the evan.network as the underlying infrastructure. In addition to the marketability of the solution and its operation on a European legal basis, the functionality, provided by the evan.network, was an important criterion.
In particular, the mapping of real business relationships, which are made available digitally, plays a key role for the trust required in the vehicle registration.
Also, the possibility of mapping vehicles and ownership relationships digitally was taken into account when selecting the product.

In the soon to be developed solution, vehicles are mapped via digital twins and then provided with the relevant registration data. In the future, analogous documents can be replaced by digital twins with verified accounts and registration-relevant data. Thus, the digital registration is available to the individuals using the vehicle and to other parties, such as the vehicle owner, insurance companies or service providers, at any time. This means that the person holding the vehicle can simply register, re-register or deregister it using an app. The proof of the necessary rights is provided by carTRUST. The solution created with carTRUST also serves as a basis for further mobility services, which can thus be mapped digitally and securely.

The vehicle’s digital identity created in carTRUST can be used by any mobility provider which needs digital vehicle-relevant proofs for his application. The main focus lies on fleet management and shared mobility applications that are to be offered efficiently and digitally. The users should simply be able to drive off” says Olszok.
carTRUST connects the players who are involved in the possessing, maintaining, securing and selling of a vehicle. These processes include the following steps:
- Manufacturers create a digital identity as a twin of a new vehicle and are the first to acquire the ownership of the vehicle in return
- Distributors offer their customers a completely digital processes and transfer the ownership of the vehicle to their customers after the successful sale
- When financing, banks retain ownership of a vehicle and grant the customers rights of disposal and use. In this way, the customer can use the vehicle without restrictions, but cannot sell it without consent or finance it several times
- The current insurance status is consigned to a vehicle by the insurance companies. Thus, the information is stored where it is needed
- Every citizen can register into the system and easily record, manage and approve his vehicles online via an app. When the vehicle is sold, the transfer of ownership, as well as the granting of usage rights, is also carried out via the app
- Service providers can connect via interfaces and thus digitally offer their business models without great effort
- Admission offices are relieved and can automate the majority of admission processes.
The development of carTRUST is progressing very quickly. The implementation of carTRUST in the regulatory environment is planned for the upcoming year 2020.
