In today’s day and age, obviously the word “free” is a great word to hear, but my be hard to come by when you’re an event planner. To make your life easier, we put together a list of five of our favorite applications to use that won’t cost you a penny. They are perfect for anything from helping promote a clearer brand, to helping you with guest registration.

Friendly Reminder — EXPOAid HQ uses all of these applications in our day-to-day work. These are recommendations from event managers!

Rebrandly

Rebrandly is a custom URL shortener that allows you to present a more polished brand image. Add these URL links to social media posts, your website, or as easy-to-remember URLs on signage at your event. Wherever you use them, you’ll be able to track the data behind the clicks — and your first 1,000 links are free.

Trello

You hear a lot of people recommending this product — why? Because it’s free, it’s easy to set up, and even easier to use. Using a kanban style board, you drag cards to where they need to go, and can add members, labels, or checklists to the cards to stay on track. Need inspiration? Here’s a sample conference planning board, here’s some tips for event planners, and here is a sample wedding planner board.

MailChimp

MailChimp is the world’s number one marketing automation platform. Use it to send emails, create landing pages, and even send physical postcards! By being able to sort, segment, tag, and group your list, you now have the ability to send highly personalized messages to portions of your audience, improving your open rates and your click rates. What’s even better? Your first 12,000 emails and your first 6,000 people on your list are free.

Zoho

There really isn’t a reason why you shouldn’t be using Zoho. Sleek, intuitive design on all of their products, generous free plans, and more capability than other leading competitors. From free business email, document storage, and forms, Zoho is the way to go. The best part? Most of their software, including business email, is free until you hit 25 users. Want to test it out? Shoot me an email at nsykes@expoaid-corp.com to try it.

Medium

That’s what you’re on right now! There isn’t a better option out there than to host your content on Medium.com. It’s such a simple, free alternative to Wordpress or other apps. You can submit press releases, have blog posts, and interact with other content creators. You can even get paid for your work by joining the partnership program!

BONUS: About.Me

Alright — personal development time. If you don’t want to waste money on getting a personal website (although you should, imo), you can use About.Me to have a simple portfolio and about page that you can link to from a personal domain, or another item like that.
