People often say that a Computer Science graduate who ends up not being an Engineer is a waste — being underestimated can be hard sometimes. Not for Hantze tough, because he started his career as Computer Science Lecturer for 10 years before starting his ‘ideal’ career as a Software Engineer. His experience has sharpened all of the theory he had to imply it to the practical action.

Before he joined PAYFAZZ, he signed a contract with a private university. After leaving the institution, he started his career at one of the biggest startups in Indonesia, and worked 2 years before finally choose PAYFAZZ to leverage his career opportunity.

What Hantze do as a Senior Software Engineer at PAYFAZZ is to ensure that the data or services requested by a user through the frontend system or software are delivered through programmatic form. It was a challenge when he first came to PAYFAZZ, because it already has its own business view that Hantze should fulfill.

Teaching the theory for more than 10 years without practicing definitely makes it hard to understand what the business is experiencing. Developing a program is not something you build overnight. Although Hantze did not have any trouble. His curiosity to learn and analyze the business has brought him to become a Senior Software Engineer. It’s not easy, after several experiences before, Hantze still tried to adapt to the working environment.

Before he joined PAYFAZZ, Hantze also used to help with projects outside of his teaching. He supported one government projects related to the Kemnaker RI (Kementerian Ketenagakerjaan Republik Indonesia) to track how many employees and human resources divisions there are in Indonesia. Contributing in such project has taught Hantze that he can still become “an engineer”. Even though it was not his main job at the time, what matters is that he can his contribute to the country besides teaching our young generations.

It seems easy, but having a career for 10 years when you dreamed of pursuing another career is not as simple as that. However, it’s worth the wait. Now, Hantze made it to what he truly wanted and it taught us a lesson, a very simple one: no matter what you do now, as long as you give your best, eventually you will make it & you will get there.
