Last week, Feat wrapped up a nine-week, corporate pilot program for Airbnb. The program involved 120 participants from the engineering department in their San Francisco headquarters, as well as members from their Portland and Seattle branches. The participants competed in teams where data (steps taken and hours slept) earned them virtual coins to be redeemed for real rewards. Sushi making classes, blind tastings and visits with food waste company Ugly Juice were all part of translating their healthy actions into group rewards.

Although the participation segment of the program is over, Feat continues to engage with the participants in order to get feedback and assess the overall impact. Here is a chance to get to know some of the Airbnb participants and understand who is engaging with Feat. While all of the participants come from the engineering department, their backgrounds and reactions to Feat are quite different.

Raghava is 28 and has been with Airbnb for just three months. Originally from India, he’s settling into the San Francisco climate quite well. He loves hiking and all things tech. He already considers himself healthy, going to the gym two or three times a week and getting outdoors for hikes during the weekend. While he feels confident with his physical activity, Raghava still struggles to maintain a balanced diet. He feels that he succeeds in eating healthy in the office, but says, “Sometimes over the weekends I eat unhealthily.” Using Feat in the office, Raghava particularly liked having the tracker and seeing how his steps added up. That being said, he didn’t notice a huge change in his diet or physical activity during Feat. In the future, he sees Feat as a great way to provide health-related opportunities in a social context, as the team rewards did. Raghava looks forward to following the Feat program for offices, finding it “encouraging and competitive.”
