What is a value ladder, and how can affiliates use value ladders in their VSL?

Clement Udoh:
This is you listing the value of what the product is offering and also telling them what the benefit is worth in value.

For instance, you’re getting a new phone from a shop, and you are getting a charger, earpiece, and all of that. You’ll tell them this:

“You are getting this for…….”

“You are also getting this for…….”

“You’ll also learn how to do this……”

You are trying to tell them what they are getting as a value price tag, which will give them the perception that what they are getting is worth getting and could produce great results for them.

When people have this perception of a product, that this product is worth this, it clears the doubt that the product can help them solve their problems.

After the value ladder, you use the offer because when they have this perception from the value ladder, you need to get them to take action. You use your offer to get them to take action.

Let’s say the product you are promoting is N10,000. You can tell them the product plus the benefits mentioned is worth N50,000, and if they are interested in getting the products and all the value listed, you’ll be giving them an opportunity to get it in the next 4 hours for just N10,000 instead of N50,000.

Now, this gives them the impression that what you are selling is actually valued at N50,000, and if they can take action within the next few hours, they can get it for a lower price.

Offer has to do with your pricing, your urgency, your scarcity, and bonuses. You can also say that those who will get the product within the next few hours will be getting a special bonus.

The difference is this… The first one I did was very long. It was one hour long, and I was teaching, and I was not pre-selling. I was busy teaching, and no one could convert.

I was not creating curiosity. I was not creating the spark that would get them to buy. I was just teaching, and when they had learned everything in the VSL, they did not see any reason to get the product.

In the New VSL:
I gave only the basics; I didn’t go straight into teaching. I showed proof using multiple testimonials, and I didn’t make it very long. It was around 15 to 30 minutes so that people could watch till the end.

My first VSL was one hour long because I took time to teach. I was not creating curiosity, and there was no urgency.

15 to 30 minutes. It should not be less than that, too, so you can take your time to list the offer, the bonuses, and all of that.

You mentioned pre-selling. What does pre-selling mean?

Clement Udoh:
It’s you priming them, getting them interested in what you want to sell to them.

You want to sell to them; the main aim is to sell to them, but you’re priming them to get them to a stage where you can sell to them. From the beginning of the VSL, you’re giving them the mindset that you are going to help them solve their problems or achieve their desire, but you’re not telling them you’ll sell to them.

The main purpose of the VSL is to sell to them at the end.

You prime them using testimonials and credibility, and when you’re done, you sell.
