The NFT whitelisting campaign is officially over, and we’ve had some great results!

Hey Kikit and web3 gaming community, it’s been a while! Coming at you today to officially announce the end of our massive NFT Whitelisting competition. We’ve had a great start and look set to have a huge number of. users to kickstart Kikit!

While the ever-changing landscape of the web3 space is still in slightly turbulent times, one area that is showing ever-growing enthusiasm is the move-to-earn genre, with this movement focussed gaming model building a continuously increasing presence in the GameFi world. The response we have received to our Kikit campaign is just further proof of that!

Following the closure of the campaign, we can confirm we received a quite mind-blowing 99,158 entries from a total of just shy of 10k participants! In addition to this, we saw 3,867 people join the referral programme to help boost the Kikit exposure even further. This means that, when Kikit launch day finally arrives, we will be kicking things off with just under 10,000 users! I can’t say for sure there are none, but I can be pretty sure there are not many projects that have launched with those kind of numbers!

Following such a successful campaign, we can see there is some real excitement about the Kikit project, and the move-to-earn space is definitely gaining a lot of traction as one of the most popular trends in web3 right now!

The latest trend in blockchain gaming takes gamers off the couch and into the real world

Since the advent of blockchain gaming and following its development in to the GameFi space as we know it today, the major focus has been around projects incentivising users to play their games with monetary rewards. This opportunity is no bad thing, and in fact given the timing of it’s explosion coinciding with disastrous real-world events causing global job losses in the millions and financial turmoil for many, the play-to-earn revolution has undoubtedly helped huge numbers create earning opportunities and fight their way through this trying period.

A few short years ago, although no one really made the connection at the time, we saw the first example of move-to-earn with the global sensation, Pokemon Go launched in July 2016. There were no monetary rewards available; instead the game implemented AR technology to create a world filled with Pokemon and other in-game related items to collect around the globe in different locations.

Around the time of the Pokemon Go boom, there was a lot happening in the world of crypto and blockchain, but the space from then to now is almost incomparable. Bitcoin was hovering around the $600 to $700 mark, Ethereum was garnering a lot of attention but was still very much a baby, having launched just a year earlier, and banks were only just starting to take note of distributed ledgers and decentralisation. The big point to note here is, while the blockchain space was developing and gaining attention of some huge sectors, there was no sign of the web3 space we see today.

Is Move-to-Earn Really a Gaming Genre?

There is no argument around the play-to-earn sector of web3, with clear development in terms of gameplay from the primitive but popular Crypto Kitties beginning, through to the likes of Delysium, SIDUS Heroes and many other groundbreaking titles appearing in the space today.

Move-to-earn, however, is a little different. While there are clear aspects of gamification in terms of in-app challenges, contests and activities, the premise itself has much less focus on gaming and much more focus on movement and exercise.

If we ask the question “are these games?” about fitness apps like Strava, Nike Run Club and many more, I think the answer would be a resounding no. The differentiator with move-to-earn apps is the integration of blockchain technology, rich and rapidly developing social features, and in-app upgrade options much like skins and equipment in traditional games, whether by hitting goals or through in-app purchases.

A Positive Step for GameFi

As has always been the case, when technological development is in the right hands, it is utilised for the betterment of society. You may have a different opinion, but for me, move-to-earn is a shining example of exactly this. We have GPS movement tracking software, we have blockchain technology and we have gaming development, all coming together in (almost) perfect harmony to create this whole new genre to incentivise exercise, healthy living and more active lifestyles.

The thought process taken here at Kikit in terms of development is very much future based, in the sense that while we are still in the very early days of the move-to-earn development leaving us restricted in terms of technological capabilities, this will inevitably change. It is one of the greatest attributes of the human mind that when we are faced with resistance, obstacles or limitations, there will always be those that set about overcoming these obstacles and stretch the boundaries to previously unimaginable levels.

The fact this new gamified experience is garnering so much attention and still growing in spite of the current state of the crypto landscape does shine a light on one negative point though, and that is the fact that there is a portion of the population who either need or want financial incentives in order to get off the couch! I’d personally like to gloss over that part though, because, even if people do need that little extra incentive, at least it is happening!

Finishing off on an incredibly positive note — this is only the beginning. We are currently at the birth of move-to-earn, and as is always the case, the development that is sure to come on this new frontier, better tech and more engaging apps will surely mean higher user numbers and user frequency. Move-to-earn is here to stay, and it’s getting stronger!

Blockchain, Gaming and Fitness: Combining to Form a Powerful Trend

Let’s take a look at the impact the new move-to-earn genre is already beginning to have on the world

Just a few short years ago we would hear a conversation about cryptocurrency or blockchain, and could be almost certain the discussion was about recent trading experiences or a new token. Fast forward to today, and the quite unbelievable diversity in the space leaves you with a very slim chance of guessing the topic of that conversation! Blockchain technology is everywhere, spanning industries including financial services, art, healthcare, gaming, media and retail to name a few, with no doubt many more to come.

One area that has seen a particularly huge boom due to the integration of blockchain tech is gaming, with the advent of play-to-earn. The transition, although very much still ongoing, from pay-to-play to play-to-earn has seen a dramatic rise in earning opportunities which, with thanks in no small part to the global economic crisis witnessed in the last couple of years, has played a role in huge numbers of people in countries with lower economies — especially those heavily reliant on tourism — to gain access to otherwise unreachable income.

While we are in the very early stages of the adoption of blockchain gaming, it has begun, and with a 3.2 billion strong global gaming community in an industry valued in excess of $300 billion, the scope for growth is simply mind-boggling.

There is another industry that has been steadily increasing for some years now, and that is heath and fitness, with the global population becoming more aware of the benefits of exercise, healthy lifestyles and generally becoming more health conscious. According to McKinsey, there is roughly $1.5 trillion a year spent on consumer health and wellness products and services, and along side this, statista.com estimate the global fitness app market valuation currently stands at roughly $16.77 billion.

This points to one of two things — either healthy living is expensive, or a lot of people are spending in the industry! I’d be inclined to go with the latter. Admittedly, and unfortunately, healthier choices do come at a price, and the temptation of global fast food chains and streaming subscriptions services constantly in view can be a challenge to avoid, but given the figures above, clearly the world is taking note and undertaking the challenge!

The stark contrast between gaming and fitness couldn’t be greater, with each requiring polar opposites in terms of activity. There have of course, coinciding with the development in recent years of motion-sensor and movement-tracking console add-ons, been a number of fitness and exercise based games cropping up to begin the amalgamation of gaming and fitness. While this new trend was and is quite innovative, there is not much more incentive than you will find at the gym, or following workout routines from online streaming platforms. Enter stage left, blockchain.

The two huge industries mentioned above, when combined through blockchain technology, GPS tracking and dApps, bring us to the latest and definitely most popular current trend in the crypto space today; move-to-earn, or MoveFi. This new genre could very easily be the key we, the crypto collective, have been searching for to finally unlock the door and open the floodgates to mass-adoption. MoveFi offers the opportunity to be rewarded for your movement. To put it simply, you can essentially get paid to walk to work!

We have already seen the beginning of this new genre taking shape and being adopted at huge pace, with some MoveFi apps — Stepn, Walken and MoveZ gto name a few- out there gathering users at eye-watering speed. The Kikit Economy

The Kikit economy is based around two economic structures; the dual-token economy and the Kikit marketplace.

Token Economy

The in-game currency, $KIT, is the token powering the in-game economy itself. It’s what you will earn, what you will spend and what you will mostly redeem in gameplay rewards. A few of the features are:

Earned through player movement and other gameplay elements
Unlimited supply balanced with multiple burn mechanisms
Creative ‘burn’ events to add a fun risk-element for players
Supply / demand balancing to ensure token stability

The governance token, $KKT, will be the publically listed token, generated at the Kikit token generation event and has a number of crucial features to ensure democratic management and token and project strength:

Advanced gameplay modes and for governance participation rewards
Fixed supply with deflationary mechanics supporting token value
Burn mechanisms — NFT upgrades, level and mode unlocks, and more.
Dynamic management through special events

The Kikit marketplace is your trading, lending, borrowing and upgrading one-stop shop! In our marketplace you can buy NFT upgrades in the form of various performance boosters such as endurance, flexibility and skill, as well as fully levelled-up NFTs!

It’s not just the game modes that you can level-up in Kikit — we have a range of NFT assets for each activity from novice to pro to superstar! Every asset, no matter the level can be boosted and upgraded in terms of performance, and of course, when you’ve fully upgraded your superstar level asset, you can sell it or lend it on the marketplace!
