Charlie’s Wish
What does it feel like to make friends?

Charlie, a human service robot, stares out the window. Birds are hopping cheerfully on the lawn looking for seeds or worms.
“It’s a happy scene,” Charlie thinks. He is programmed to serve mankind and propose solutions to their questions. But, he is not happy and free like the birds outside.
His micro-sense processors send a message to his AI brain to join them. “Chirp, chirp,” he calls out. The birds twitter in reply. One hops onto his mechanical hand.
Is that how it feels to make friends? He immediately starts researching ideas to transform himself into a bird.
