Filmarket Hub had a year filled with growth, challenges and new heights.
Our pitching events have become essential industry meetups, the projects that come out of ‘Sitges Pitchbox’ and ‘Madrid TV Pitchbox’ are increasingly attractive to producers and financiers. Some of them have been nominated for the Goya Awards, a prestigious honor given by the Spanish Film Academy.
Not content with our current roster of events, we premiered our first ever UK based one: London TV Pitchbox, where we had the fantastic Jamie Glazebrook — Executive Producer of ‘Peaky Blinders’ and Creative Director at Caryn Mandabach Productions — host a case study on his hit TV series.
Likewise, we had an extraordinary guest at ‘Sitges Pitchbox’ this year, Ron Perlman. The Winner of the 1989’s Golden Globe award gave an inspiring speech to all the creators in the room about tearing down barriers to let their creativity and passion guide them. Terribly Uplifting.
In 2018 we taught everyone interested how to write a TV pilot in 30 days with Write the damn thing! A crash course on effective TV writing. The comprehensive month-long challenge went over every step new writers should go over to write a killer first draft.
But that’s was not enough! We also partnered with MASTERCLASS in an exclusive deal to create TRAINING — a service dedicated to our users that want to develop their skills and crafts further with the best classes offered by top experts in the film industry, such as Aaron Sorkin, Shonda Rhimes, or Martin Scorsese.
In 2018, for the first time, projects that came out of our market were nominated for the most important award given by the Spanish Film Academy. ‘Not The End’, received a Goya nomination for Best New Director. This film was a part of Sitges Pitchbox 2015, where it captured the attention of many producers and industry veterans.
‘ERREMENTARI’ was also nominated for Best Special Effects, alongside industry giants like ‘SUPER LOPEZ’ or ‘THE REALM’. ‘ERRMENTARI’ was a special mention at our Sitges Pitchbox 2015 event.
As we look over at 2019, we are excited about our first ever TV Pitchbox in Latinamerica. FICG TV PITCHBOX will be an innovative pitching event aimed exclusively at Latin American series and TV shows in the development phase. The event will take place inside the framework of the Guadalajara International Film Festival on March 13 of the upcoming year.
Filmarket Hub keeps growing; we extend our brand into new horizons facing exciting and unique challenges. This closing year was full of successes and significant developments; we are sure the coming year will bring more of the same.
