Note: this page describes the workflow for adding your article to the Firebase Developers on Medium publication once it has been reviewed and approved by the Firebase team. If you would like to get published on Firebase Developers on Medium, please go to Get Published on Firebase Developers on Medium to learn how you can submit your article for review.

Congratulations — your article has been accepted for publication!

Here is what will happen next:

  1. You will receive an email from our system, letting you know that your article has been accepted. This email will contain a link to this article you’re currently reading.
  2. You need to add the article to our publication (see below for how exactly this works)
  3. Once you’ve done this, we will perform a light editing pass (see below to understand what this means)
  4. We might ask you to make some minor changes to the article (for example, update the code snippets)
  5. After all this has been done, we will publish the article on our publication
  6. We might also share your article on social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram). It would be fantastic if you could amplify the respective post by liking / retweeting it.

Adding your article to the publication

When you fill out the submission form, we ask you for your Medium username. This is required so we can add you to our publication as an author. Once you are added as an author, you can add your article to our publication by following the steps below:

  • Click the three dots in the bottom right corner of your story to open the menu:
  • Click Add to Publication
  • Select Firebase Developers on Medium
  • Click Submit

Note that each article can only be published on exactly one publication — this is a Medium restriction.

Editing

Once your article is accepted, we will perform a lightweight editing pass.

  • Fix any spelling mistakes and grammar errors
  • Make sure consistent formatting is used. We will use monospace font for any inline code, italics for any UI elements, and bold to call out important parts of a sentence.
  • We might add or re-arrange some headings and insert some pull quotes to make the article easier to read
  • We will also check the metadata of your article, and make sure it has a good title, summary, and keywords.
  • We might also leave some feedback on your article, for example if we’d like you to update some of the code you discuss in the article.

Once we’ve finished editing your article, we will leave a comment on the article to let you know that we’ve finished. In case we leave any feedback that you need to address before the article can be published, we would like to ask you to address the feedback as soon as possible. We will let you know by sending you an email (if you’ve provided your email address when submitting the article) or by a comment on your article as soon as your article is published. You can then tweet / toot about your article to let others know about it.
