These simple strategies will help you stick with exercise for good.

You already know all the serious benefits of regular exercise — from improving mood, sleep and heart health to reducing anxiety and depression. However despite being aware of these benefits, it’s not always easy to motivate yourself to work out, especially after a long day at work. We thought we’d share with you some tips & tricks that have helped us stay committed in the past.

Make it fun & interesting

Let’s face it: starting a fitness programme is not that hard, we’ve all done it. The real challenge is sticking with it! The main trick is to find something you enjoy doing and start from there! You’re more likely to continue with a workout routine if you’re having fun. And if you find yourself getting bored, switch it up and try something new, like Viking Training for example.

Check Your Expectations!

Most people abandon their exercise routines when they don’t get the results they want quick enough. Remember, you didn’t get out of shape overnight, so it’s going to take a while for you to see the desired changes in your physique. If you expect too much, too soon, you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment. Strive for progress and not perfection, and if you’re consistent with your workouts, you will see results! We promise.

Track your fitness level, not physical appearance.

As mentioned above, it can take a while for you to see changes in your body when you first start exercising. That said, changes in your endurance, strength and energy levels are noticeable almost immediateley. Relying on your scale and “before & photos” is not helpful as they do not capture this progress. Instead, keep track of simple numbers such as how many push-ups or sit-ups you can do. This will help you see that the exercise you’ve being doing is making you stronger and will give you even better motivation to keep going

Don’t do it alone!

We’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it, exercise shouldn’t be a chore. The next time you exercise, grab a friend to join you. Τhe benefits of working out with a friend are endless! Friends will turn your workout sessions into social events, keep you accountable, and will push you on days you feel like giving up. If you’re on hoolio, just use the “Add friends” feature to work out with your pals online.

Go hard then go home!

There’s this misconception that you need to spend hours working out in order to reap the benefits of exercise. Well that couldn’t be further from the truth. Indeed, studies have shown that short intense exercises are just as effective as longer workout sessions. So if you only have 10–15 minutes to spare, you can still get fit. Find a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout on hoolio and make sure you push yourself to the max!
