STAR TREK ANNIVERSARY
Star Trek β Boldly Going to the Future
Star Trek began with a whimper
If you read my post about my starry-eyed sisters and Star Trek, you learned I was turned on to the show when about 5 years old. As a lifelong Trekker, I have enjoyed watching the original series from time to time as I always discover something new.
I rewatched the original series pilot The Cage and mention it here because this original pilot has a different timeline, which is where the new Star Trek Strange New Worlds takes place. So if Star Trek Strange New Worlds is confusing you, go back and watch the original pilot The Cage episode.
The original pilot had very big differences from the Star Trek series. Not only are the uniforms drab and ugly, but the storyline is complex and meandering. Gene Roddenberry had written this episode as a futuristic, hopeful saga about humanity rising above its petty problems of war and racial unrest.
The pilot featured Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy.) Spock was a Science Officer, but there was no Kirk, Dr. McCoy, Scotty, Chekov, or Sulu. In fact, Sulu was introduced in the third episode and Chekov wasnβt introduced until season 2.
